I don't know how you were comfortable in it. I drove my friend's once and I was chewing on my knees. I'm no giant either.Squint wrote:Have you been in one? And how tall is he? Cause I'm 6' and I was very comfortable in it.
Two pedals, two feet, too easy.

Seat was probably all the way back, so I had decent room. 6'7" person def would have problems though... Go drive a Ford Flex! Stupid looking, but RIDICULOUSLY spacious on the inside. And super-techie as well if that's your thing.
But I don't recall being too low on headroom or anything in the Smart, though a couple of inches taller and it could have been an issue.

Yeah, I agree....I'm only 6'0", but I could have been wearing a top hat and still had room left over in the Smart. As tiny as it is from the outside, it really had quite a bit of room on the inside. But it's still a little turdbox.

How about your legs? Tall people tend to have longer legs - that's why the height is not the only "dimension" they measure e.g. when choosing fighter pilots.Shadow wrote:Yeah, I agree....I'm only 6'0", but I could have been wearing a top hat and still had room left over in the Smart. I'm fairly proportional. Relatively even between torso and legs, though legs probably are slightly longer. My dad and brother (both taller than me by at least 2") are more legs, and so they have problems in some smaller vehicles that I fit in just fine.

Actually, I probably have a longer legs and shorter torso than most people my height. My pants are a 34" inseam. So I guess that can work both ways....headroom might not be much of a problem for me at all.Tups wrote:How about your legs? Just change it to, "I'm proportional AND I drive a small car... can you guess what that says about me?" Easiest way to pick up chicks... ever. Unless you're Sean Connery. And then you just have to talk.paul34 wrote:Great pickup line.Squint wrote:I'm fairly proportional.

Re: Smart Fortwo Passion Coupe
I drove a Smart car with Car2Go, I agree with the brakes as it feels like for a split second you're going to rear end the car in front of you and then the next split second your dentures are falling out.
Transmission, you can easily fix that, with a bit of money...
http://www.smartbusa.us/
For $18,500 for a completely installed kit, you get a Hayabusa motor, a sequential shift manual transmission with manual clutch, and everything to make your Smart go from 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and do a 1/4 mile in 12.4 seconds. $17,500 to get this kit to install yourself, and $14,000 to do yourself if you can source your own Hayabusa motor and transmission.
I think Euro Smarts had Amish transmissions so you could source one from there as well.

I'm surprised there's no mention of fuel economy there. You would think that, even with all those extra horsies, the driver of a Smart (which should be renamed "incredibly stupid"* with that kit) would be concerned about fuel economy.
*: I mean that as in you gonna die so it's a stupid idea, not stupid as in a badly made kit.

Eyed wander if one, or two could un-automate the transmission so it could be clutched and shifted manually. Looks like external shift apparati could be unbolted and cable shift reaction bracket and levers bolted on in their places.

Re: Smart Fortwo Passion Coupe
If you bought a kit for $18k to add onto a Smart Car, perhaps you should just buy a low end BMW or Mercedes instead. You'd probably get the same gas mileage, a lot smoother ride, and spend around the same amount of money total. No, you might not be quite as fast, but I'd call that a worthwhile switch.
