Hungry Man Pub Favorites Chopped Beef Steak
My wife got a job and doesn't cook as much anymore. As a result I'm bringing frozen dinners to work for lunch some days.
Described as "Grilled beef patties with savory beer gravy, home-style mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables", this sounds like a run-of-the-mill gray mystery meat in flavorless brown sauce meal. That impression is quite incorrect.
The meat actually tastes like its namesake. It actually tastes like a chopped beefsteak cooked in a pub. I'm not saying it tastes as good as freshly prepared grilled meat, but it doesn't taste like beef usually tastes from the microwave. I can't imagine what godawful chemicals they used to accomplish that. I'll probably suffer chromosomal damage from eating it. The gravy is decent, too.
The vegetables...well I normally don't like vegetables but sometimes a restaurant, my wife, or a microwave meal can get it right. They are decent....doubly so when mixed with the gravy.
The mashed potatoes were the only thing that didn't exceed my expectations; they were just like the mashed potatoes in any other Hungry Man meal. Neither great nor awful, they are just part of the meal there to help fill you up.
I ate every last bit of food.
Unfortunately the 1 pound of food contains only a mere 590 calories. This would be a great meal for someone who is trying to lose weight but needs a lot of food to feel ok. They ought to repackage the same meal under a diet brand name like Lean Cuisine. It left me hungry for more so I ate half a bag of chips and feel better.

I like the beer battered chicken and cheese fries variety.

Hungry man in general is quite terrible. I used to eat those back in the day.

Re: Hungry Man Pub Favorites Chopped Beef Steak
I've found Hungry Man to be no worse than other similar frozen dinners. Their lasagna is quite good and includes really good garlic bread. Their buffalo chicken meal is decent. The bourbon steak tips meal is kinda good once but gets icky if you eat it too often.
Of course, this is all relative; if we get out of the microwave frozen tv dinner category, the discussion changes.
A side note on a side dish: Lean Gourmet Snackers Pepperoni Pizza Snack Rolls are absolutely awful. I couldn't even eat one, I spit it out and threw them all away.

I limit my microwave frozen food consumption to Hot Pockets.

Re: Hungry Man Pub Favorites Chopped Beef Steak
I got a hungry man dinner once and it came with a brownie for "dessert". The brownie had corn stuck in it. The dinner wasn't even supposed to come with corn.
I stay away from these at all costs.

Re: Hungry Man Pub Favorites Chopped Beef Steak

Re: Hungry Man Pub Favorites Chopped Beef Steak
I've had corn in my brownie, but that was in meals that include corn.
I agree that the portions are usually insufficient.

Wait a minute, "corn in my brownie" actually sounds a lot more gross than it is.
