No...

I sold a 2002 FWD 200hp car with 145,000 miles on it for a 2008 AWD 250hp car with 10,000 miles on it. that is what us high mileage commuters have to do with our daily drivers... 130 miles a day add up quick

I love driving stick, but depending on where I was commuting, I may want a DSG or even a slushbox.

Id rather commute in a stick. Autocreep freaks me out in traffic more than it does in regular driving

I've gotten to the point where I'm occasionally startled by autocreep.

Yesterday I drove a few times for work. The trucks are obviously all automatic. Most cars I can deal with the creep to some extent, but the trucks freaked me out a bit because of the combination of shitty brakes and heavy traffic.

Autocreep only occurs with automatic transmissions because the torque converter is always engaged and applying torque even with the brake on...

A DSG doesn't autocreep since the clutch disengages when you stop; when you take your foot off the brake it takes a half second or so before the DSG engages the clutch and applies torque; IE manual.

It isn't my job to convince you all; if you prefer to continue living in the dark ages and calling it an automatic be my guest. If not; feel free to join the rest of the knowledgeable automotive world and learn what it really is

Alright, alright i know...

I just wanted to add that I was reading this one thread about this on the car lounge and it seems that a decent number of folk that drive manuals daily would be willing or would even rather drive an auto as a commuter/daily.

It's an interesting situation. I have a friend who drives a manual well. I know only one bad habbit of his - he will at times ride through the corner in neutral. Not a huge issue.

Still he he drives a an auto now, even though he misses a manual. However, just last night on the way home we were talking about him getting a new car and he's not sure whether he would like manual or auto.

Honestly, some people just don't have the same interests and passions. That's all that it comes down to I suppose. Me - I do what I like and I enjoy a manual in all cases. In all honestly, sometimes we on SS smell of a bit of an "elitist" attitude towards manuals.

I think if there was a site dedicated to automatic transmissions, they'd do the same

What's wrong with that? Was he taking the turn at the edge of the car's handling ability?

Automaticshift.com? That doesn't even sound right. I enjoy driving my car because of the connection with it. If I mess up, the car lets me know. The enjoyment of nailing a DC rev-match approaching a ramp and pulling away from drivers behind you is something that always puts a smile on my face. I could go on about things that I enjoy about driving a manual, but this isn't the thread.
BTW, nice new ride
