the only people i've ever known to drive automatics are people who can't drive stick. not people who don't like to, people who can't. i've never met a person who tries to drive stick, eventually gets the hang of it and does a good job at driving it, and says "no thanks ill stick with an auto" (oxymoron sentence btw)

My dad is great at driving stick, but he just doesn't want to be bothered with it anymore. He drove stick for over 20 years before he got an automatic. His driving stick when I was little is why I drive stick.

My father in law is great at it but doesn't bother too.

Age can be a factor as well. My friend's father is 60 and drove nothing but manuals up until a few years ago. His knees and ankles aren't in the best shape anymore. I'll probably be the same way when I get older sadly.

If I get old where my knees don't agree with the clutch pedal, I'll get hand controls installed.

Anyone know where I can get a hand-operated clutch lever installed?

I don't think I would install hand controls when I'm old. I'd just drive an auto and remember the good old days of driving a manual and being able to fart without shitting myself every time.

When I'm old, if I can't do manual I'll go DSG. It's the closest I'll get. I hope I can drive manual for the rest of my life though.

Not unless you die of unnatural causes. With old age come limitations. Lots of them.

When I'm old, ...wait a minute,...I am old! It's just like Young 1.0, but takes more time to boot and has memory issues.

Traffic isn't too bad since we can idle around like automatics by engaging the clutch a tiny bit. I mostly hate traffic because it wastes so much gas and I hate that. I even turn off my engine at long red lights.

Traffic sucks in both an auto or manual... but with an auto you have to keep your foot on the brake pedal at all times. With a manual, if your foot needs a break and you're on a flat surface, you can momentarily take your feet off all pedals for a little brake. +1 for manual.

In auto and manual both, I use the handbrake when my foot needs a rest in traffic. It's especially convenient in an auto because you can partially or fully release the handbrake for auto-creep.

An auto with a handbrake is the optimal configuration to reduce the pain of being stuck in a traffic jam.
