my neighbors are all pretty cool actually. They may be a little miffed at times, but not mad, I rarely do that stuff.

But, oh man is it loud :lol:. I think if I were standing behind the car, rather then sitting inside of it, those backfires would have caused some ear-ringing. Me and my friend drove it around a little bit without the exhaust, it's sop loud :lol:. It sounds kind of like a small boat :lol:.

From the misc thread;
noob5,000,000 wrote:Any ideas for DIY exhaust flange flattening? I noticed that a couple of the flanges on my y-pipe are slightly warped, causing exhaust leaks. I'd like to fix them before getting the exhaust back on the car, exhaust leaks are teh suck.

Some flanges can be removed...then you can work it on the bench.
I'll get some pics tomorrow. These flanges can't be removed without cutting (though the whole y-pipe is fairly small). It looks like the flanges are slightly bowed inward, causing a gap in the middle. I'm thinking i can use a hammer to carefully straighten them, then use something abrasive to 'machine' them flat.

I got those pics today:

The gaps actually aren't as bad as I remember them being, maybe I'll take my chances with an angle grinder or something.

In other news, my brake master cylinder is on it's way out. my brakes pretty much stopped working altogether, and there is fluid leaking out between the master cylinder and the brake booster. FFFUUUU-

Yeah, I'd totally add a gasket rather than risk making it worse.

If I was going to screw with it, I'd add a few washers and then use a clamp to bring the centers in toward each other...but it looks too brittle to handle that.

You know what really grinds my gears? When you're trying to unscrew a brake fitting from the master cylinder using a proper flare nut wrench, only to have it round off anyway. Luckily I have another line lying around, but that means I'll have to buy another one eventually to get the other car together. FFFFUUUUU-

I'm sure that if you ask any good sturgeon, they'll tell you it's easier to do a hip replacement on a teenager than on an octogenarian. Problem is, teens don't seem to be the ones w/worn-out ball-joints.

Face it: Your cars are old men. They belch, fart, and drool. Surgery is often required, but doesn't always go as planned.

Flare nuts are the bane of my existence. At least 75% of them are rust-welded to their mate.

If its mate is tough and you're not afraid to break it, I know a trick for avoiding rounding off flare nuts. Put on the flare wrench, then clamp vise grips onto the flare wrench to prevent it from spreading open.

If the mate is not tough (radiator) then do not do it, as you'll only break the damn thing. I broke my truck's transmission cooler this way.
