Just a little update on ol' rusty.

She's running great now that all the kinks are worked out. It pulls hard, shifts good and handles very nicely. It only rarely floods, usually when it dies due to lack of idle when cold. Having a fuel pump kill switch in the center console helps immensely in those situations.

Only 2 problems that need attention; I joined 2 lengths of fuel line above the gas tank with one of those barbed brass splices, alas one is leaking. Only a couple drops every time I run it, but it's annoying (and dangerous ). I've also been having intermittent cranking issues. Sometimes, when I turn the key to 'start', it'll just click, sometimes doing it 3 or more times until it finally turns over like nothing happened. I'm guessing it's an issue with battery cables or something somewhere. I'll have to go through and clean off all the contacts and stuff. The battery is brand new, so I doubt it's the problem.

Thanks!

I had to hook up the battery charger today, and when I was looking around the engine bay, I noticed that my clutch slave looks to have contracted the AIDS:

Still works fine, but has developed some weird coating all over it.

I also tried recording a short video of a ride around my block today, it was an epic fail. Life lesson: hand-held camera + driving (especially a manual car) doesn't work.
It's currently uploading to youtube, I'll post it when it's done.
EDIT: lolol

WHOA!

If you've been reading the misc thread, you are likely familiar with the latest development:

So, I've had 2 leaky fuel hoses in the back of the FC for as while now (the 2 lines in/out of the tank, they were cut and then poorly spliced). So last night/today, me and a friend were working on replacing them. We got the lines replaced after dropping the tank and setting gasoline splashed all over ourselves. I went to start the car and SURPRISE, fuel pouring out from somewhere underneath the car, but not where our new hoses were. Great. I suspect that one of the rusty metal hardlines got ruptured in the process of replacing the rubber hoses. FFFFUUUUUUU-
noob5,000,000 wrote:I already miss driving my FC :( . Replacing those fuel lines is going to be a BITCH AND THREE QUARTERS!!! Making matters worse, the brake line that splits to the 2 rear wheels is run along the same route as the fuel lines and they are therefore 'clamped' together with those plastic dividers. I'm afraid I may lose a brake line in the process, and those flared fittings do not look like they'd cooperate if I had to replace the brake line[s]. I thoroughly soaked the lines, dividers, and fittings with Liquid Wrench, along with most of the undercarriage and suspension parts. Hopefully that helps a little it. I'll have to call the dealer tomorrow and see what they want for replacement lines. If it's too much, I'll bend up my own.

f**k rust, I'm so glad I have another FC in much better shape .

As it sits (it's also covered in rain today)

I went to the dealer today to inquire about the lines, they're $65.04 for the 2 fuel lines and the line that takes fuel vapors from the tank to the charcoal canister up front. There's one set left, in Pennsylvania . I'll do a check on the financial situation and hopefully go in first thing tomorrow and order them. They're not exactly a hot item, so I doubt they'll sell out over night.

Here's a bunch of other stuff that occurred since the last update:

Took a video of my smoky exhaust:

Attempted to capture images of the insane oil smoke clouds that appear on high-RPM shifts:

My exhaust tip fell off:

I have devised an evil plan. I will take the pretty-good-shape fuel lines off of the Texas FC, transfer them to RustBalls McGillicutty to get it running, then install the brand-new lines on Texas FC when I get them.

Fuel lines = ordered. They'll be here Wednesday. I'm pretty sure I got the last set in North America (last in the world maybe?).

In the meantime, I'll finish removing the good used fuel lines from Texas FC so I can transfer them to RustBalls McGillicutty. The brand new fuel lines will be put on the Texas FC when I get them.

So I got the old lines off today, they broke in several places during removal. Tomorrow I'll have to drop the subframe even further so I can snake the non-rusty used ones through.
