thats easy to take care of. dont crash. i doubt they would insure a car thats not street legal. theres less treehugger stuff on the CRX than on my car.

It's funny b/c the night that I bought my GTI, I called up my insurance company to have it insured and one of the questions they asked me was "Sir, do you plan on modifying your vehicle?" And I just played dumb, like "What do you mean modify it?" I'm not going to tell them about the extra goodies under the hood b/c I don't want them to jack my insurance rates up.

And as for driving a 1987 Honda Accord with 2 wheels in Hawaii...you would blend in with the locals brada It may be island paradise here, but there are still tons of beater cars, ricers, and of course hot exotics like Lotus Elise's, Lamboraghini's, Ferrari's, and GTI's...

when my car was hit, the total that the insurance gave me was the cost of my car+upgrades that i had receipts for, which surprised me. the upgrades were mainly audio and suspension.

i just had to fax them all of my receipts and they added the sum of that total to the cost of my car.

I suspect that it varies from one insurance company to another, and from one state to another (due to differing laws). When modifying for performance I would worry that the insurance company would require me to report those modifications so they could raise my price, and if I didn't then they would consider it fraud and not cover me in an worst-case scenario accident -- not only not covering my car, but not covering any damage I do or medical/punitive damages awarded to the other party.

In RI with Progressive, they won't even put it on your policy if you tell them. I insured a car whose VIN was for the V6 model but actually had a V8 in it. I reported it but they wouldn't put it on the policy and I paid V6 rates on it.
