Remember, fire is good for ratings.

Used it on some stuck screws a couple of weeks ago. Came out like they were brand new.

I applied mucho fire :( . I don't know what else to try, I have the flywheel locked (properly, with a specialty tool) and I heated up the bolt. With a 4' pipe over the ratchet, I keep lifting the engine stand off the ground and I may have slightly bent the flywheel locking tool. WTF, mate? I'll have to try to get the air compressor working tomorrow and see if I can impact it off :? .

Mind if I ask where you're applying the fire? If you heat the bolt, then the bolt itself is going to expand and make it more difficult. If you heat around the bolt, it should increase the size of the hole the bolt resides in and make it looser.

I was using heat mostly to break up any thread locker that may be present (I think it usually is on the front pulley hub bolt). I'll try heating around it next, but that will be kind of hard since everything is kind of covered. The bolt head is really the only thing exposed.

That's not how it works. Heating the metal doesn't make the hole expand, it makes the metal expand; that would close the hole (visualize frying a donut). The point of heating is that it breaks up chemical bonds (like threadlocker or maybe some rust) and differing rates of expansion force things to move relative to each other which breaks up mechanical bonds (like rust).

The impact gun is a good idea. A bunch of impacts can do the job with less torque than steady force.

Whether impact or by hand, don't forget to try turning it the other way. While tightening it seems like it wouldn't serve your purpose, it may break the bond and allow you to loosen it. You can try operating the impact gun in a rocking motion like you would use to get a car un-stuck from the snow...that seems to work well for me.

Try banging it.

(Waits for laughter to die down)

Try tapping on it vigorously with a hammer apparatus. It sometimes puts the bolt into compression and the thread contact shifts (HAH) from one side of the thread to the other side. It's even better to tap on it as you apply torques.

Also try alternating hot/cold cycles; switch between torching it and applying dry ice (or the more common but possibly less effective upside-down canned air). This causes more potential movement than heat alone.

Finally got that bolt off. We switched to a longer pipe, and I stood on the engine stand to keep it still while my dad leaned on the pipe. I pulled the front cover off, then promptly sliced my hand open on the Crank Angle Sensor drive gear . I'm glad I decided to pull the front cover, though. The gasket looks like it's due for replacement, and I just happened to order one with my last batch of parts. I'll also have an opportunity to paint the slightly haggard-looking front cover.

I began applying Quick Roof (poor man's Dynamat) tonight. I finished the hatch floor area, it was easier than I thought. I may try to do the rear storage bin buckets (behind the front seats), but they need vacuuming and it might be kind of late to fire up the Shop-vac.

[tourette's guy]UPDATE!![/tourette's guy]

I decided to fire up the Shop-vac anyway, and once they were clean I laid down more sound deadening. Tomorrow I'll tackle the main passenger compartment floor. This will be harder since there's more bolt holes to be aware of, and there's some wiring that will need to be moved. It still won't be too bad, though. Once that's done, I'll be able to start putting the interior back together :o .

Interesting. I wonder if it's similar to common water & ice barrier (sold under different names by a dozen companies, although some products have a sand finish that may not be appropriate), which may be even cheaper. Is the roll heavy?

Yeah it's got some weight to it. I started with a 49.5 sq ft roll, I estimate I've used about 10-12 sq ft so far, and the remaining amount weighs 11 pounds according to the bathroom scale.

I wish I would have thought to weight it before hand. Actually, I probably did but forgot what it was .

Here's an outdated picture of the Quick Roof application. I've since covered the rear seat/storage bin buckets as well. I think it came out pretty damn good on the flat part of the trunk. It got a little sloppy in the curved areas of the seat buckets (wrinkles....), but it's all pretty flat and coverage is good.'

My TII oil pump arrived today. I tore it down, cleaned it out really good, and reassembled it with some engine assembly lube. I plan on making some room in the garage tomorrow and start assembling the engine. I also have a camera now, so there will likely be pictures! :o .
