Vedran's 1997 Maxima SE

Post by vedran »

if you guys remember from a thread a while back (http://www.standardshift.com/forum/view ... =7&t=11142), a lady slammed into my CL, thus totaling it. there wasn't a lot of body damage but a good bit of suspension damage that deemed the car as totaled.

here is the last picture that i took before they took her away :(

i searched for a new car for a good month before i finally found what i wanted. i test drove several cars, including an SVT Contour (biggest POS), 86 supra (that i wish was in better condition [had less than 130k on original engine/tranny!]), and several Hondas.

in the end, i found a car that fit my exact needs - a roomy 6 cylinder sedan with a clutch pedal.

i picked up a 97 Maxima SE that had a single owner, an older gentleman who took great care of the car. i received the car with fresh oil, new air filter, new tires, and other little things done to it. from the feel of the car, i believe that the struts were replaced as well but i am not 100% certain. the ride is very firm and the car handles corners very well. the only maintenance that i have to do is to change the gear oil, which i will be doing as soon as i receive my order of Amsoil GL-4 gear oil that i couldn't find in ANY automotive store.

overall, i am very satisfied with the car - its quiet, quick, comfortable, and decent on gas mileage. i truly enjoy driving it.

here are some pictures

You're killing me Ved. The dream car I had when I was buying mine was your exact car, except in red. I found one just like yours except green and from '99 (some kind of anniversary edition I believe) and I still kick myself to this day for not buying it. Granted, it was more expensive than my Corolla, but god damn was it sweet.

PS, that thing is a total sleeper. You can rape most anybody on the road with some skill.

Ooo nice car, and super clean too! My coworker has one as well, 98 in black with stick shift. The new Maximas don't come in stick anymore eh? =(

Sweet. My friend had a 2000 Maxima SE (auto :( ), pretty much the same thing but different body style. I really liked that car, nice and torquey and pretty quick all around. It sounds awesome with a GReddy EVO2 exhaust. :P

BTW I highly recommend Red Line MT-90 GL-4 gear oil. That's what I put on my Corolla, shifted a lot smoother especially when warm. Does it take 75W90?

thanks for the recommendation.

yes it does take 75W90. Red Line is my second choice, but i have to look more into both of them before i make my final decision.

on maxima.org, most recommended Amsoil over anything else. however, it seems as if they are VERY similar and Red Line even costs a couple of bucks less per quart.

Nice car, Vedran. As you remember my dad owns a fully optioned '00 SE and I have a lot of love for the Maximas, especially in the SE trim. You've got a very clean and nice car. I love it.

How many miles? Be on the lookout for new O2 sensors, however.
