Hehe reminds me of my 86 Lynx, sadly smashed by an idiot driver. I will replace it someday.

Here's a better answer to THC's question earlier in this thread:

We have a small brakeless single-axle trailer. It probably dates back to the 80s since the sides are made of plywood, there's only three bolts in the wheels and, well, it's not that modern-looking. Yet, despite (and maybe because of) its small size it's pretty handy and useful since most of the oversized stuff I need to transport is small and light enough so I don't need a heavier and more powerful car, a trailer with brakes and/or more letters in my driver's licence (I can't, for example, legally tow mobile homes or large trailers).

That's my parents' car in the background.

That car is in amazing shape, especially considering it's age. I 'inherited' a Mercury Lynx, an '86 IIRC. It used to belong to my dad, and my brother and I both learned to drive on it. Sadly, I managed to catch the engine on fire somewhere in the late 90's... Given the lack of longevity of my poor Lynx, I am all the more amazed by your Escort.

Awesome looking car. I love Escorts - just a simple, efficient car that keeps on going. Sold my 2nd (US) gen to my dad and it has 214k miles on it with only minor issues. Sad to think they don't make them anymore.

Beautiful car in beautiful shape. Sure, the paint may be scratched, but that's the price of actually driving a car; not a big deal. The interior is charming, too, the lack of radio gives it an interesting look. I used to tool around in an old MT Lynx station wagon (I think it was an 1984 but I'm guessing). Twenty-five years ago this car was more in Michigan than fat people, never thought I'd look back at it so fondly.

Love that you use it as a tow vehicle, too. That doubles it's greatness.

While changing the motor oil (54 €/$76) the repair man noticed that one of the CV joints had a damaged rubber gaiter. I guess I'll get it replaced at the same time with the timing belt, which is due... soon, probably. I couldn't find the receipt of the previous change, but I'm pretty sure it's not overdue yet. Hopefully. Anyway, all this means that for the rest of the year I don't really have to think about how to spend my money. There's nothing to spend! I hope they'll spare me the old belt and rubber gaiter to gnaw, since I can no longer afford food...

You live somewhere near Helsinki? If so I can chage your timingbelt, and that gaiter. Can't give U guarantee for those changes, but well, I have changed over hundred of those + various other things while I was mechanic. So I belive there wouldent be any complications afterwards.
