You can't really see it in the pic but there's a button behind the steering wheel to turn on the break lights. I've never seen that before. Maybe a way to get rid of tailgaters?

are you talking about the little switch on top of the steering column? that's for the parking lights. they're the only lights you can turn on when the key is off/out. unless that feature came after 97, but i think it's been a Subaru thing for a while.

Ya, the other lights don't turn on when the car is off.
