Eaglecatcher's 1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo (pics on pg. 3)

Post by eaglecatcher »

So it's been three and a half years in the making, but I can finally say I own my dream car (a reasonably obtainable one... McLaren F1's don't count). Just picked it up today, a silver 1990 300ZXTT. It's a little rough around the edges, needs a few things like a shifter, trunk latch, rear wing, and a few other misc things, but overall it's in quite good shape. 131k miles and pulls very hard. Very. I couldn't stop smiling the entire way home. I had to go to a christmas party right after getting home otherwise I'd have pics. But I plan on spending some time the next few days getting it cleaned up and ready for a photoshoot in my backyard, since it can't leave as we're just going to keep it until May as there's no point in insuring it for 4 months when I can only drive 1 of them, lol. But I have a feeling I'll get it out for a few spins here and there.

So although I don't have pics yet, I couldn't resist making this thread. Thanks to all of y'all who put up with my incessant rambling, and hopefully paolo isn't offended that mine is the same as his, just... in not as good shape... YET!

Haha. Pics will come soon enough I promise. If I could take it out for a drive I'd go to a parking garage or something. It's so hard. It's tempting like no other to take it out for a spin, but with no insurance it's not a risk I want to take.

What's wrong with the shifter?

I don't understand.
- You're only going to keep it until May?
- Why can't you drive for 3 out of the next 4 months?

I think he means they're going to store it until May. He's probably not taking it back to school in NY next semester, so insuring the car when he's not going to be driving it is a waste of money.

Shifter is kinda wobbly and tilted forward. They tend to kind of sink down into the console a bit with age because the support bracket is made of hard rubber rather than metal, so, as you can imagine, 20 years of shifting takes its toll on that piece. I could get away with just replacing that bracket and the bushings, which I may do, but I figure I'll go ahead and get the short shifter if I have the cash.

We're keeping it indefinitely, just not driving it until may. Like warner said, I won't be taking it to NY this semester since I've already got flights booked and stuff so there's no real way to get it there. but it's not that bad though, gives me time to save up a bunch of money to put into bringing it back to top shape.

I would go out and wash it and take pictures right now, except for the fact that it's snowing. WTF. If it stops snowing before dark, I'll go out and get pictures but we'll see if that happens.

I also have been flipping through the receipts and stuff and found out that it had a new clutch put in ~15k miles ago, and quite a few other things. But most of the big maintenance items seemed to be taken care of for a while. Now it's just a matter of saving up for turbos because they're more than fine right now, but I don't know how much longer they'll go. lol

A little bit. lol. But it's either buy it now and let it sit, or wait until may and hope I find a good one. I chose this option so at least I know what I've got, and will have spring break to clean it up really well.
