When I got the convertible, it came with four completely unrelated tires. Only connection was the numerical size. You could tell any time the conditions were sub-par.

The general rule with cars though is to keep things symmetric. Should never replace one tie rod end without the other etc. While its not likely to cause an issue most of the time, theres a big peace of mind improvement when things match.

I agree that there is additional peace of mind with things being symmetrical. However, the concern about uneven handling can be put to rest within 5 minutes of getting the tire, and corrected a half hour later for the same total price as you would have paid for two tires to begin with.

If replacing just one tire, I would put the mismatching set on the non-drive whels and havng a matching set on the other end. Otherwise it may put undue stress on the diff, dependng on the difference in tread depth.

yeah, i ended up getting the other tire so i have the same ones on the front. The cars was pulling slightly to the right, after the other was put on, it tracks fine. It's amazing how a stupid tire blister ends up costing $180. No more picking up people at the airport while it's snowing!
I got the road hazard warranty on my new tires, I wonder if this happens again, when the tires are fairly worn, would they replace both of my tires when just one was damaged?

They wont even replace one. In my experience, road hazard on tires is a joke. They never even plug a nail hole without charging you. This is why I have the $8 plug kit from Autozone in my trunk at all times.

I've never had the pleasure of dealing with any road hazard claims. So far, I have not had a bulge in the tire. It's always been nails, crews or dislodging a bead (wheeling). That's about it. nothing that I couldn't fix or batch and be safe.

Having said that, watch me blow two tires tomorrow on the way to work, crash into a bus full of nuns and run through a school yard full of disabled children.

Where did you get your tires and road hazard warranty, watkins?

I've had plenty of tires replaced under road hazard warranties, and some places will do repairs for free even if you don't buy the road hazard warranty. These days I'd rather just plug them myself, it's easier than putting on the spare (let alone the time spent going to the shop and waiting for someone to repair it).

I'm a firm believe in keeping paired tires on the same axle.

But I'm anal about my cars so that's why. You could certainly replace one, as long as of doesn't bug you.

But if it weren't car I'd replace both. Again because im anal.

Try Town Fair Tire. I haven't done business with them in years, but they were incredibly good about road hazard warranties and even treadwear warranties.
