Re: WUZ GOOD STANDARD SHIFT
OP: Please restate in english. From what my brain allowed me to read, 3 clutches in 6 months is ridiculous. Either you're doing something very wrong or the mechanic is. If he's honest, and its your driving he should have said something by now.
I rev-match 99.99% my downshifts. That .01% is from a non-rev matched from 4th to 2nd that had me testing the seatbelt is why I'm a stickler for it. Then again I rarely drop only 1 gear on a downshift. Eggwich, putting it into 2nd at 4mph...would the target rpm even require you to blip? I'd think that would be near idle anyways.
I do not DC, on my car, im my experience it takes too long and has little to no benefit for smoothness/engagement. Instead my practice has gone into timing the re-engagement of the clutch such that it starts engagement with the engine about 100-200 rpm higher than the target rpm and fully engages at the target rpm. Perfectly smooth, relatively quick.

Wait, just tried to re-read that. Did you say a 1994 with only 20K miles? No way in hell, unless grandpa bought a Integra MT and only took it to church (an unlikely scenario).

Re: WUZ GOOD STANDARD SHIFT
On the non-rev-matched downshift issue: I recently changed my commute route. I'm now on a road full of short/medium steep hills at low speeds. For the first time ever, I get to use different gears instead of just being in 5th all the time.
On this route, I definitely do low RPM single-gear downshifts without rev-matching. If I find myself losing speed uphill, I can flick it down a gear and get power to the ground in a second, or take at least double the time fiddling around with rev-matching for the sake of 150RPM...I think most people accept more than that as their margin of error during rev-matching.

Re: WUZ GOOD STANDARD SHIFT
Agreed! My normal downshifts are 1-2K downshifts. Hence the required rev-match. I have the torque to get away with leaving it in a higher gear for longer, perhaps a bad habit that I'm not in a hurry to change.theholycow wrote:rev-matching for the sake of 150RPM...I think most people accept more than that as their margin of error during rev-matching.

Re: WUZ GOOD STANDARD SHIFT
My friend never rev matches his downshifts, and his 89 Accord had almost 200k on the odo before he got rid of it. Pretty sure it was on the first clutch as well.
Wonder what happened to the OP.

This. I've posted about it on other forums and they respond like I've just landed from Mars.paul34 wrote:don't think they are even aware of what it is.
Edit: Oh, and my dad couldn't understand why anyone would HT even after I tried to explain it...even in the context of hill launches without a handbrake, which he certainly did plenty of.
He got scared off because we busted his balls about his posting style.FDSpirit wrote:Wonder what happened to the OP.

Seriouthly. I don't revmatch all the time, and I don't think it's necessary when I don't. Thus, I don't feel it's necessary or sensible to revmatch all the time. Maybe it's just due to my driving in a lot of heavy, slow traffic, or my love of coasting and not actually stopping at lights, or my dislove of not racing up behind stopped cars to stop then go. Either way, WUZ GOOD STANDARD SHIFT!beowulf80 wrote: Eggwich, putting it into 2nd at 4mph...would the target rpm even require you to blip? I'd think that would be near idle anyways.
Integra is the West Coast Mustang. (I say this a lot.) They are everywhere, and they are full of young dudes modifying the life out of them. God bless them everyone. (Yeah I love ricers cuz ricers love cars.)

Although I applaud your attempt at understanding the blight upon the auto enthusiast world commonly known as the ricer, I must respectfully disagree. Within my personal definition of ricer, it is those that attempt to improve thier cars and utterly fail at this task. These attempted upgrades are generally mostly cosmetic, but can include some performance alterations as well. Given the amount of good solid information available via the internet I can only conclude that it is a willful ignorance.eggwich delfiero wrote:(Yeah I love ricers cuz ricers love cars.)
Perhaps I can illustrate my point via an alternative pictoral method.
Baseline:
Something that is wonderful in its natural state. While this could very well be a Honda Civic Si in my alternative perspective and utilizing the epitome of west coast culture I will use a Hollywood example. In this case, Tara Reid.
Ricered!
