Tony's KLR 650

Post by AHTOXA »

Figured I'd get this posted by now.

Picked up the KLR 650 last Friday. It was a deal a week in the making and I had a buddy ride it home for me. By then I've already had my license and done the MSF, but I wasn't comfy taking it on the freeway and here, you just about can't avoid taking a freeway if you need to get somewhere.

2011 KLR 650, 7100 miles at the time of purchase. It's stock with the exception of a taller windscreen and riser. This is awesome because I would have had to do this mod anyway, with my height and all.

Easy to ride, plenty of power (for me, at least) and very ergonomically friendly for me. I've put nearly 90 miles on her since this weekend!

No mods planned, aside from a few necessary maintenance mods, if you will. They will increase reliability and longevity of certain parts. Other than that - that's it. I just plan on riding it for a while as-is.

I'll take better pictures later on.

At some point I may get the fairings painted, as I'm not crazy about the silver/blue color scheme. It was a good deal, so I was willing to overlook the colors. Kawasaki green over black would have been preferred, of course.

Oddly enough, my mountain bike is also silver/blue. I also got a very good deal on it at the time and wasn't able to chose colors. I guess they were meant to be.

Nice! Looks good. Although, I can't understand why you might want that green. I think the silver/blue looks much nicer. To each their own, I guess. How is it riding on roads since it is a multi-purpose bike (as compared to say, a street designed bike)? Since Texas = driving everywhere to get anywhere.

Nice....always have loved enduros. There's just something awesome about being able to ride on the street and the trails with the same bike.

Despite it's dirtbike-ish appearance, it's rather civil on the street. It was designed with the ability to travel long distances over the road and also be able to travel offroad if necessary. It's too heavy to do any serious trail riding, but it wasn't designed to do that. Adventure bikes aren't dirt bikes, after all, but they can hold their own over milder stuff.

I'm really digging the aftermarket windscreen, which is taller and more upright. Felt decently warm today during my ride in the high 40s.

A fit mid 30's soccer mom waved at me from the sidewalk as I rode by on Sunday. That's as close as I've gotten at this point.

I keep thinking this girl that runs on the sidewalk near where a buddy of mine lives is like 60. I keep getting corrected that shes like 24. Gotta watch for that man. What may look like a fit mid 30s soccer mom may not be exactly what it seems.

Meh, I was at work all day and then drank beer and packed for my backpacking trip, upon which I'm embarking today. I leave at noon and I'm heading to east Texas for the weekend.
