Thank you for making me feel less self-conscious about buying a car with more theoretical capability than I'll ever use in my personal life, but enjoy nonetheless.

No problem :) I will probably never even remotely approach the limits of the SS, but that is okay. I just like the combination of performance, luxury, and size. Like they say, better to have and not need than to need and not have.

Have you looked into what it would take to disassemble the headlight switch and remove the spring?

I'd do the resistor mod on the light sensor before trying to de-spring the headlight switch. It should be the same as it is for my truck.

It may also be possible to disconnect it another way. For example, they might be tied in with the DRL control module, if it's separate (GM sometimes does that)...in which case you might get away with disconnecting the DRL module entirely (if you don't mind not having DRLs).

I'm sure you looked through all the settings already.

I'm amazed that the parking brake being set before turning the ignition on doesn't prevent the auto headlights.

So, I today I thought what the heck and I tried holding the light switch in the "Off" position while starting the car. No headlights! What sucks is that I'll have to do that every time I start the car, but oh well, better than frying my headlights early.

Good thing no one at work was looking over my shoulder as I checked this thread... they might have wanted bacon.

At least you found a fix so the lights don't turn on. Perhaps, like cow or IMBoring said, there can be a relatively simple more permanent fix. Ford's don't have spring loaded light toggles, they are a standard toggle/dial where it stays where you leave it.

Just gassed up on Saturday. 10.8 MPG average for the tank lol :? 150% City driving. I say "150%" because about half the time I drive, I sit idle in traffic or a red light. Absolutely no freeway driving this tank. :P 8)

Wow. I wouldn't mind a bit sportier of a car, but I don't know that I could take 10.8 MPG in exchange for that.

10.8 MPG isn't a big prollum F N U doan drife mini milse.

Also, that's like hyper-miling compared to owning a boat!

True, it isn't much of a problem because a tank still lasts me more than two weeks at a time. If you judge it by miles driven, I drove less than 200 miles in the past 2.5 weeks. The big thing is, if I drove more miles, I would inevitably hit a freeway at some point, which will increase my MPG. I was averaging around 23-24 MPG on freeway hauls. So, in essence, it doesn't make much of a difference lol.

I keep joking with my cousin who also bought a new car recently. A Nissan Leaf. The complete polar-opposite of the car I bought lol
