'09 tC: tie down belt

Synchros shot? Weird noises while shifting? Not sure what needs to be replaced?

'09 tC: tie down belt

Post by gizmo »

For the felow tC members:

I'm taking a long road trip and I had one of my old wheel/tire combos mounted and balanced so that I'd have a full sized spare but the tie down belt has no adjuster (so there is play in the harness).

Does anyone have a tie down belt without an "adjuster"?

My manual indicates a tie down belt with adjuster...

that's where it goes/is. the "tie-down-belt" is designed to secure that full-size tire in the trunk so that it cannot be thrown into the cabin during some unusual event. (darn hatchback has no real "trunk").

I reckon if there were less slack, there'd be less chance the belt would break, but a somewhat slightly loosened belt is better than none at all.

What about shimming it, or just using your own adjustable tie-down belt?

(I think you missed a couple accents, man, if it's Spanish I'm seeing.)

How much does it cost?

A few bucks, not a whole lot. I've seen 'em in a kit at the home depot for 'bout ten dollars.

put it in the trunk
close trunk
get in car
drive

exact science. in the event you decide to drive on the wrong side of the road, the back seat will keep it in the trunk

Not quite an exact science. What if his fold-down back seat doesn't have strong latches? My 1997 Grand Am didn't require a lever or other control to be operated to fold them down, just push and they go down. Then there's other concerns like not wanting to break other stuff that's in the trunk every time you go over bumps and not wanting it to rattle around...not everybody drives ricers with exhaust so loud that they can't hear/feel their cargo flailing around in the trunk.

or we could all just drive normal instead of planning on every possible thing to happen. you might as well put a 12pt cage in it then for when you roll over trying to dodge a cow that fell out of the sky

I believe that "normal" is exactly what someone is looking for when they try to secure their spare tire.

If I fall out of the sky, you better freakin' dodge.
