brake light
my light that says the handbrake is up goes on whenever i go over some bumps, but not others...is there a way i could fix that? (without fixing handbrake, altho i'm sure that'd fix the issue)...or is it just a sensor? it goes off if i turn the car off...

Re: brake light
I checked the EBSCO Auto Repair Reference Center and AutoZone's repair guide. I couldn't find the switch. If you find it, you can either short or open the connection and the light will never go on. It might be easier just to cover the light with some black tape, though.

Re: brake light
If you hold the brake lever down with your hand as you go over the bumps, does the light stay off?
Also, just 4 grins, check the brake fluid level in the brake "Master cylinder". No sense blaming this on the parking brake if it is related to the foundation brakes.

Re: brake light
Low brake fluid sloshing around as you go over bumps can do that. As it swishes in the tank, it flows away from the sensor and trips the light.
Check the brake fluid level.

Re: brake light
It's under the hood, drivers side, near the firewall (on most cars, at least) (the firewall is the panel that separates the engine bay from the cabin).

Re: brake light
so i went out (i'm still on lunch) and checked my brake fluid....
MAX
halfway point
fluid level
MIN
thats where it is....you tell me if i need to add more or not....theres a white thing floating on top (i woulda gotten pics if i would be able to load them, and i cant (stupid computer)...), and it seems to me that if i were to add more fluid, it wouldn't be able to fit...
i'd ask my grandpa, but he's in FL at wycliffe.
now i need to go clean the grease off my fingers
*sigh*

Re: brake light
i would leave it alone for now, unless it goes below that min level or the level was higher when you first got the car.wannabe wrote:so i went out (i'm still on lunch) and checked my brake fluid....

edit: if this "low" level is causing the sensor to go off, maybe you should add a little fluid; i would try to keep it below max level though, especially if you're planning on having other brake work done anytime soon (not that they can't syphon it out).

Re: brake light
The white thing that's floating...can you describe it better? Does it look like it belongs there and should be floating, does it look like it might have broken off of something in there, or does it look like debris?
