Hollow Engine Noise

Synchros shot? Weird noises while shifting? Not sure what needs to be replaced?

Hollow Engine Noise

Post by Caramel »

I'm getting this hollow engine noise when I'm accelerating in 1st and 2nd gears between 1500 - 3000 rpm. In the other gears it sounds fine, and the acceleration is fine. What could possibly be wrong?

it could just be your engine getting dragged down trying to match wheel speed. since 1-2 shifts are the biggest jump in RPMs, its most likely to happen there than anywhere else

But I never heard it before. It's more like a hollow whirring noise.

did it just occur suddenly? if thats the case then get it checked out. but if it doesn't sound like its hurting the engine, most likely its not

Heat shield? Belt tensioner on its way out? A bearing on one of the belt accessories?

Who knows, you'll find out when it breaks :)

even the dude @ the dealership didn't know what it was. I don't think it's a common problem :(

I would get the vid, but it's kinda temperamental and the sound isn't very loud, it's just audible to be honest so I don't think it's going to come up through a vid. But i'll definitely put one up if the sound comes back soon.
