when i did my front brakes on my truck i coated every bolt i had to take off with anti seize before i put it back on. i will never go through that much shit to do a brake job again, so help me godpadauk_dust wrote:Also when reinstalling fasteners or new bolts/clamps, some anti-seize on the threads will be a huge help if you have to do exhasut work again. (Not too much anti seize, just a dab appropriate to the bolt size)
I use it whenever working on anything exhaust related, makes things go smoother the next time you do it.

PB Blaster is far more effective.padauk_dust wrote:I suggest periodically soaking the fasteners you are planning to remove with wd-40 starting about a day in advance.

50/50 mix of ATF and acetone is the best rust penetrant known to man. it demolishes PBblaster and embarrases WD40 in lab testing of torque required to break loose a lab rusted bolt
what i did after getting tired of working with shitty rusted bolts, i went and got some grade 8 bolts from the hardware store. now i just airgun them on and off, dont gotta worry about snapping a 3/8 thick grade 8 bolt

Re: Help and questions about installing cat-back exhaust...
there are test results on the interwebz somewhere, ofcourse i didnt CTRL D them. it was something like 500ftlb to break loose a plain bolt, 300 with WD40, 250 with PBBlaster, 200 with some rare expensive shit and 50, yes 50 ftlb with acetone/atf mix
i might have to buy a can of acetone and a bottle of ATF and keep a empty coffee can around next time i work on anything wiht rusty bolts
here it is, apparently googling 'rust penetrant test results' gives you what your looking for. amazing :headscratch:

Re: Help and questions about installing cat-back exhaust...
I spent a couple weeks crawling under my truck once a day to spray PB Blaster, spray cold spray (upside-down canned air), hit my fuel filter nuts with a hammer, and try to loosen them...I finally gave up and took a chance with the dremel, notching the nuts to relieve some of their pressure. I wonder if I would have gotten it done in a day using the acetone/ATF mix.

Just so my small brain can grasp this... ATF = automatic transmission fluid?

Yes. Slushboxes have to be useful for something.
The ATF works best when fresh from the car. So go kill an autotragic and drain its blood

Wow, I never heard of the ATF/Acetone mix. Can't wait to try it out.

I'm excited too, but I'd rather wait if it means not dealing with rusty fasteners.noob5,000,000 wrote:Can't wait to try it out.
