High speed, higher temperature?
Well lately my temperature gauge indicates that I have a 10 degrees temperature increase on highways, in town, it's quite normal, every thing works properly, How do I know if it's the fan or the radiator or the sensor, all I know is that my water isn't leaking, and I can't certainly hear the sound of my fan on a high way with plenty of air and loud cars and trucks.

On the highway I'd guess that it's not your fan, since you get plenty of forced airflow anyway.

Re: High speed, higher temperature?
I remember this summer on a hot day when I was in my friend's MK3 VR6 and we were racing/playing around with another friend's MKIV VR6 on the highway. Since the MK3 has the sweet MFD, we checked the oil temp throughout. Normally he gets around 210-225 Fahrenheit in the city on hot summer days. This time we were up to about 245 I've read that other MK3's have gone to 280 during hard (and I mean REALLY HARD) driving with no apparent problems, so 10 degrees shouldn't be too bad.

My guess is that on the highway the engine is just worked harder in some senses because you are constant on the throttle, whereas around town you get to let the engine take a break at lights and cool down. 10* isn't that much of a change. It should be alright.

It's not a big deal per se, except that it didn't use to. Another question though; if some parts of the radiator are clogged is flushing and washing alright or does the mechanic have to remove the system and inspect it??

I don't know when you last flushed your radiator, but if it's been 3+ years it might be wise to drain/refill it. I've seen *chunks* come out of radiators that have never been drained
Also, if you lose pressure in the system (faulty cap, hose leak) I believe your coolant temp. can rise as well as cause boiling.

Lmfao! Chunks??? That's crazy! I'd also suggest changing the coolant. But I don't think its anything to worry about unless its skyrocketing.

Actually, first check the coolant level by letting the car cool down, and then take the radiator cap off.
It should be filled to the brim, with about half of the reserve tank full. (TO find this, follow the small tube coming off the cap down to a tank.

Maybe your water pump is having troubles at higher rpm, or its a tad leaky, so it fails over longer periods of use.rubi wrote:I flushed it last March actually, and from that moment till today I am having problems! Re: High speed, higher temperature?
Some cooling systems are extremely difficult to purge of air pockets after refilling, flushing, etc. Can you hear any gurgling? On a cool engine, try disconnecting the highest radiator hose and check for air inside. You can try to refill it before you reconnect it.rubi wrote:I flushed it last March actually, and from that moment till today I am having problems! My car also had "Fin Rot" (not to be confused with Rotten Finns) once and the radiator lost cooling capacity. It showed as higher temps during highway driving. IF I dropped 10 mph, the temperature came back down. Running the heater also brought the temps down, well, engine coolant temperature. Running the heater in July didn't help my temperature any.
