key not turn in chevrolet cavalier 2002

Synchros shot? Weird noises while shifting? Not sure what needs to be replaced?

key not turn in chevrolet cavalier 2002

Post by skylark »

Hi. I am looking to buy a 2002 cavalier and the car I am looking at is having a hard time with the key turning. I would have to really jiggle the key to get it turned. The place i'm buying it from says the key may have been cut bad, and they are going to get someone look at it. Could there be some other problem?
thanks

Worn key, worn key cylinder, or badly cut key are definite possibilities. The steering wheel lock might be messed up, also. If you try to turn and hold the steering wheel, does it make the key easier to turn?

Turning the stearing weel doesn't help. Nither does pressing thew break or clutch.

I don't think it would have an interlock for the transmission or handbrake, but was it in neutral with the handbrake engaged?

It sounds like key or key cylinder.

yep. Tried all those things. The sales man got it working by jigling the key while turning. He actually did it consistently and quickly. Not me though:)He said they would get it fixed.

They fixed it. They needed to make a new key.
