Does it seem accurate?

Can anyone find any OBDII vehicle with significantly cheaper parts than a 1997 Ford Ranger? How about one available with a manual transmission? The only one I've found that's about the same is a 1997 Chevrolet S10, and the 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier is 4% less.

That's pretty cool, my 95' civic was the cheapest followed by my 03' Tiburon GT and lastly my 01' Rav4

Parts for Civics are in high demand. Think about it...market value is inflated, so it's worth fixing an old Civic instead of junking it. Therefore, you're buying parts, and in the meantime you're not contributing to the supply of junkyard parts.

thats actually true. my cousin who goes to a Porter&Chester college around here for automotive said they took the cranks from a B16 engine from a civic and a 1.8t motor from a GTI and threw them on the ground (they were blown motors) and the 1.8t motor smashed into 3 pieces...the honda crank didn't even have a dent...honda ftw

Not a very scientific test. Could have dropped them under the force of gravity from incrementally higher elevations and recorded the distance of the fall required to break each one, then calculated the impact velocities and figured out the energy of the impact. Still you don't know what cumulative stress each one had prior to the test and I highly doubt that drop test survival was one of the design criteria for a crankshaft.

it doesn't matter if it was design criteria for the crankshaft...VW sucks and honda doesn't...jesus don't you understand anything!!!

i talked to him again to confirm everything and they both suffered the same problem, timing belt went. so the pistons were a bit banged up so they couldn't be used again anyway. but they both dropped them from 5 feet (tape measure ftw) without any throwing force put into them, just all gravity. he said the Vdub crank made a hollow crack when it hit and the honda crank made a loud heavy thump. im going with better design.

also on a lighter note, last night when my family was going to my step fathers family's house my brother in law (drives a 4-cyl jetta 5-speed) tried being cool and revving it up to like 5 grand and dumping it in 1st...or what he thought was first. went careening backwards and did a 180 from the torque steer. i didn't stop laughing til we got there.

I'm in for a world of hurt... But I already knew that, haha.

Even my new OEM shift knob cost $70... Palmface.
