I never thought I'd say this...
...My clutch pedal assembly squeaking has gone too far. I don't realize it's happening when I have my music on but I'll be damned if it doesn't make me want to rip my hair out when I have no music on. But here's the kicker: I used silicone grease to lube up the clutch assembly on the interior firewall before and it worked for the most part, but a few months later, my slave and master cylinder grommets/seals deteriorated.
Now I'm not saying that correlation implies causation, since I don't know the chemical properties of silicone grease and how it reacts with brake fluid and rubber seals, but is there anything I can put down there to stop the squeaking without risking catastrophic clutch cylinder failure like last March? I was thinking lithium grease but I'm not sure.
Any input?

Grease can swell and split seals depending on what material they are made from. Some materials that are insensitive to brake fluid swell and split in motor oil, other fluids and greases.LHOswald wrote:white lithium grease ftw

Hobby shops will sell plastic safe oils that you can use near rubbers and they won't degrade it or cause other untold misery.* You can also look online, you're looking for an oil called LaBelle 107. That's the one oil I know does not harm plastics. It's usually used on model trains.94Corolla5Speed wrote:...My clutch pedal assembly squeaking has gone too far. Re: I never though I'd say this...
Was it Thomas Jefferson that said "All Rubbers are Created Equal!"? He was wrong. Most seals aren't even rubber these daze and their resistance to various fluids is not "Juan sighs phitz awl" Brake fluid is fairly harsh on many materials, yet something that resists degradation by brake fluid can be very susceptible to other lubricants. That's why powdered graphite is the ideal lubricant in this situation.1974Alfa5spd wrote:Hobby shops will sell plastic safe oils that you can use near rubbers and they won't degrade it or cause other untold misery.* You can also look online, you're looking for an oil called LaBelle 107. Chris, thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to Hobby Lobby with a girl this Wednesday to find testamints (long story ), so I'll look into it then.

Re: I never though I'd say this...
Dead serious. Seriously serious. Really serious. Not crying wolf this time serious. I've spent hour-n-hours searching for solutions to squeaks no lube could be found that didn't swell and split the material. I've sent suppliers out to find the holy grail of materials that would resist brake fluid and motor oil and STILL do whatever else we needed it to do - and they came back bloodied, but empty handed. Is it worth taking a chance on ruining the slave and master cylinders again as opposed to trying powdered graphite?94Corolla5Speed wrote:Chris, thanks for the suggestion. Didn't he say his original seals went bad after he lubed them in the initial post?

Molybdenum Disulfide paste=god. It comes in tubes or a can. You should be able to find it. If you can't, PM me and I'll send you a baggy with a tblsp in it.
