Straaange Idle in Neutral?!

Synchros shot? Weird noises while shifting? Not sure what needs to be replaced?

Straaange Idle in Neutral?!

Post by Caramel »

I was driving along, granted this was a cold start (but it's quite warm here right now), and I noticed stuttering, as if you were just about to stall the car. The problem is I had the clutch down, AND in Neutral Gear.

This happened about 3 times over the course of my drive, and I couldn't figure out why it was happening.
I noticed the revs were unstable when this happened as well.

Any idea what could have caused this?
I'm not too worried about the problem because it didn't happen on my drive back home.

Any neglected maintenance? Spark plugs, wires/coils if appropriate, etc...

Any check engine light?

It was momentary. And the car was checked by a dealer not too long ago, I would say within 3 months.
No lights, etc. Again passed aircare within the same amount of time.

Sounds like it wasn't firing on all cylinders.

something similar happens to my truck at times. when its very cold out and i start it, it idles high. no problem there, thats to be expected. but then i let the clutch out in neutral and the idle drops to like 400-500 and then it stalls unless i give it gas. granted the things 17 years old and its carbureted.
