stripped stud
So we took the charger to Walmart today to get the wheels switched around, and they stripped a stud. So now we/he needs to fix the stud...but how does he go about doing that?

Re: stripped stud
Look a Autozoom for a stud-presser-outer tool to borrow. Then you need a stud-presser-inner tool...or maybe pull the new stud in using a lug nut.
Another way of getting a stud ficksit is to have him visit a urologist for a vasectomy.

Shadetree way:
1. Hammer out stud.
2. Pull in new stud with lug nut.
3. Hurt yourself in some nearly impossible way, utter torrent of sailor to the 100th power profanity.
Had to replace some on the Cavy before she got junked. They wouldn't fit as they were, so the sides of the head (no, not the splines) had to be ground flat to get them in around other parts.
More than once I have fix non-stripped but substantially fuxed threads on a stud with two or three tools.
1. Thread file (THIS IS A GODSEND!)
2. Square or triangle file
3. Flat file
Don't ask me how, I just let the metal speak to me.
^ This. You break it, you bet your ass you bought it.DarkPilot wrote:Wal-Mart needs to pay to get it fixed since they broke it.....

Re: stripped stud
With a thread title like "srtipped stud" I wasn't quite sure what to expect.
Turned out better than I had suspected.

Re: stripped stud
Hey wait a minute...why did you take the car to Walmart to get the tires rotated?
I think I'll keep doing that myself in my yard, and I think I'll stick with my schedule of doing it only 4 times during the life of the tires (works out perfectly).

Dad and I nearly ended up taking the Impala to his cousin's tire shop to rotate teh tires. Why, you ask?theholycow wrote:Hey wait a minute...why did you take the car to Walmart to get the tires rotated?
Fronts go straight back, rears cross. Three wheels off the ground at once... and only two jack stands. We had the large jack, the small jack, two jack stands and an adrenaline buzz going.

Re: stripped stud
Don't forget the widowmaker spare tire jacks that come with your vehicles. They're good enough for rotating tires, and some have hex drive so you can just hook up a drill or impact wrench and lift way faster than a hydraulic jack. I picked up one at the junkyard to replace a stabilizer on my camper and liked it so much (saved my ass when I dragged the Buick off its ramps) that I grabbed another one.
Plus if you have a truck it probably came with a bottle jack.

No excuses! ROAR!!!!!
I did my whole project on dirt...and like I said, don't forget the spare tire jack, you can probably find enough of those in cars in the driveway to get the whole car off the ground.

Re: stripped stud
I've been foolish enough to try this. Jacked the front end of a friends Jetta, wasn't pretty. Someone exhaled lightly 10 miles away and the whole car shook.theholycow wrote:No excuses! ROAR!!!!!
