Electrical system band-aid; is this a good or bad idea?

Synchros shot? Weird noises while shifting? Not sure what needs to be replaced?

Electrical system band-aid; is this a good or bad idea?

Post by noob5,000,000 »

A little background; The 'room' circuit (dome light, clock, cigarette lighter/power outlet, etc) in my car was draining the battery when the car was turned off. Rather than tracking down the problem and fixing it, I simply removed the 15A 'room' fuse. BUT, I now want to regain functionality of my cigarette lighter/power outlet so I can plug in a power inverter to use my iPod dock/player in the car.

I really don't feel like reaching under the dash and removing the 'room' fuse every time I get out of the car, so I cooked up this gem in my mind. Would this work, or would it blow my car up or light it on fire?

Youre good. Put the fuse in your fix on the power side though if you want a mental bandaid too. Wont actually do anything, but it seems like more protection.

It would work, but if all you want is the power outlet then why not just wire the power outlet to another, existing, already-fused circuit?

Just remember to flip the swish when you leave the vehicle, right? Maybe a lit switch would help keep you from forgetting?
