Clicking? sound while turning

Synchros shot? Weird noises while shifting? Not sure what needs to be replaced?

Clicking? sound while turning

Post by Squint »

My Civic has developed, over the past couple of weeks, a clicking (best way I can describe it) sound that occurs when I'm turning sharply. The turn direction does not matter, but it does not happen if I'm not turning tightly. I believe it's coming from my front left wheel area, but not entirely sure because I've always been driving when it occurs and it's not something I know how to test from the outside of the car.

Thoughts?

That was my first thought, though I probably won't be able to get the car up on jack stands to look until this weekend. I know to look at the boot of the CV joint and see if it's torn or anything... but any other suggestions on how to check besides just looking?

Torn boot is not necessary for CV joint failure. Click is almost certainly CV joint.

Nother vote for joints. Mine were terrible. Looked fine. Boots were intact, but the joints were in terrible shape. It only took 3 days from the noise to go from bad to worse.

Did you replace the joints? Or go with potownrob's suggestion of ignoring it until the wheel falls off?

Yeah. I replaced it. It started grinding. I was afraid it was gonna just give out on my way home or something  . It didn't cost too much to replace them. Got remaned ones. Brand new were too damn much.
