Need help solving an intermittent miss

Synchros shot? Weird noises while shifting? Not sure what needs to be replaced?

Today it didnt actually miss that bad. I could still feel some disruptions in the flow of power but it was not that significant. Still new fuel filter will be installed on Friday but I am having my doubts that will fix it. Maybe that day I will see the plugs, I know one plug stalk has some oil leaking in it...but I one time cleaned it spic and span and it still missed so that did not cause it.

Inspecting the plugs is definitely a good idea. What you see on them is a hint for the diagnosis, not the problem itself, so cleaning them won't fix it (or won't fix it for long).

Right, I just cleaned the outside because it was covered with oil because of that small leak.

What should I look for on a fuel starvation?

Well, this is the classic, standard spark plug diagnosis chart:

Descriptions for "Too hot" and "Preignition" suggest possible lean fuel mixture.

Alright I hope they won't look that bad. I remember this used to be in the Haynes Manuals. I used to just stare at them when I was younger.

New fuel filter is installed, and car is running great! But we still have a miss. But I am beginning to think my "miss" is actually a stumble. I am going to blame the next thing I can think of...leaking ignition wires.

Also my plugs, wires and cap was in great condition aswell...or an O2 sensor. Now I have a clean fuel filter atleast.

Alright update, today I sprayed my wires and it seems that I got a leaking cylinder 1 and 2 wire. But I do not see them arcing to a ground I just see the spark going through the wires. Still could ground to something at high speeds. Going to electrical tape them all in that area. Still think that the car is a bit powerless.

I thought the wires were new:

Not brand new but new enough. about a year old.

I am going to call NGK about this...I will have to first see if this fixes the problem.

EDIT: I tried fixing them with electrical tape because I was able to fix another car with the same method and it still did the same exact thing.

Alright I think its the o2 sensor...I just want to do some tests to it...or I might just take a gamble. If that doesn't fix it then I give up completely. So that means I probably should test it.

Ill be buying good ones, so either a Denso or an NTK (NGK). Both are OEM manufacturers.

Let me explain though, when I repeatedly tap the gas pedal...yes not something that one is supposed to do...the engine starts to crap out, then I either stop and it recovers, or I keep going and it recovers but eventually starts to crap out again. I was reading that when they get old, they become sluggish. So I figured why not. Also after I do that I go to the back of the car and the exhaust smells funny.

How much will the sensor cost?

Your primitive fuel injection system may be playing make-believe carburetor, squirting like an accelerator pump each time you goose the throttle. That could flood the engine, make it stumble, and make the exhaust smell different. That could all be by design (or not).

like 30 bucks for an NGK or Denso which makes the original one.

So its interesting when I unplug the O2 sensor I don't get a CEL...now I know why people don't keep old cars.

That is indeed interesting, and I have no guesses to venture as to why it does that...but are you sure the CEL works? Does it come on with key on engine off? Did I already ask that?

Your posts are 100% better then any other forum I have been on...on guy asked me if my clutch was slipping....

Yeah the CEL comes on for a few second while the fuel pump is priming
