A new day another problem

Synchros shot? Weird noises while shifting? Not sure what needs to be replaced?

A new day another problem

Post by bk7794 »

now that my misfire is finally solved I can move onto the next problem that I have been dealing with for about 5 years or more. My idle used to stick like crazy so bad that it used to propel the car forward. Eventually I replaced the throttle cable and all has been well. Now flash forward about 14 months and now I have sticking idle again! seems to be the same problem, what could be causing my throttle cables to keep having this sticking problem...

Did your new throttle cable include a new housing?

Could the return spring be worn-out? Either way, a stronger return spring might be a reasonable hack, if you feel like hacking instead of doing a proper repair.

Return spring seems to be nice and strong. I am going to play around with it right now to see if I can re-adjust it to a better location on the cable...it only does it when the weather is hot

I wonder if it has something to do with the tension of the throttle cable. I put some slack into it and it feels good and I feel like I have more control when I am crawling in a parking lot. But I must say that it sucks when I need to get moving because I got to put my foot so far to the ground.

That is true, but that was an actual problem. This I think just requires me to re-adjust and think a bit more when driving. I think it was an impulse to think it was a problem.

Oh my, there is supposed to be about 0.5-0.75 inches of play in the cable.

You need a faster right foot.

Now I'm imagining a rocky-esque training sequence with your right and left feet.

It still sticks a tad, its nothing like it used to be...I am replacing a spring in the accelerator pedal, the return spring. Just going to try and see if that works. if not then ohwell, it was three bucks and 10 to ship it. But I also got a few other things like a light switch, so now when I open the door the light will come on without me jiggling the switch.

Make sure the pedal can push the cable in that direction...some are set up so the pedal can't push it back.

Well for some reason when I lift the gas pedal up the idle will return to normal, when I do that while sitting under the dash I can see maybe that could cause the problem, maybe like a return...i don't know really anymore. haha. The return spring I can not get anywhere, they refunded me the money and I was almost stuck paying 10 bucks to ship a 10 dollar item.

I hope rob sees this thread I got a question to ask him about his old civic. IT has to do with the gas pedal.

haha I did! I was wondering if you remembered on your old civic a dead spot on the accelerator.

By a dead spot I mean right when you push it down it feel like it moves then it pulls the cable. If that makes any sense. It is like I have play in the gas pedal. I wondered if that was a need for concern or if all civics had it.
