Left turn signal on the civic is acting funny. All the bulbs seem to be functioning, but the timing is off on the light.

If the lights are off, the turn signal blinks super fast like a bulb is out.

If the lights are on, even just running lights, the turn signal blinks at just slightly off normal speed, but it isn't a regular blink. If a regular blink lasts 1/2 second or so, this is lasting roughly a 1/4 second or less. It's more of a quick flash than blink.

Could it be the flasher has a problem and needs to be replaced since it doesn't appear to be bulb related?

It's more likely dirty connections and grounds, but replacing the flasher might be an easier thing to try.

Actually, since it changes based on headlight status, it sounds like a short in a dirty multi-function switch or connector. Does the turn signal stalk control your headlights and/or high beams?

don't forget to check the blinker fluid level

The fluid level helps for me lol kidding.

Have you recently replaced a bulb? Once I installed a single filament bulb into a dual filament socket. Whenever I would step on the brake the horn fuse would blow.

Not recently. I haven't had a chance to inspect the bulbs yet up close. I'm going to try to do it after work today or tomorrow, but I've been working late so it's harder to see when it's getting dark.

RP, could the filaments be touching just on the left side where the bulbs are acting funny? Or on the right side where everything is working normally?

Based on the good ideas in this thread, I'd say the first order of business (besides visually inspecting the bulbs) is to swap the bulbs left-right and see if the symptom follows.

Also when inspecting them I always put the hazards on. This how I know which bulbs that are supposed to blink

How does that help you determine which bulbs should be blinking?

Sounds like a bulb is out, or a bad ground. Best I can say for grounds is find them and clean them with a wire brush.

Bulb, it could be just about anything. Pretty much every light is dual-filament and if even 1 filament goes out it can cause a short. It depends on car, but on some cars none of the lights even change, you'd have to turn on your p/l, turn signals, emergency flashers, headlight lo-beams and high-beams, etc and see if a stage on one of the bulbs doesn't light up. I'd also inspect sockets if you can, make sure the bulbs are able to ground out.

One thing that can complicate it, on some cars a lot of other things are on the same circuit, like horns, etc. You might need a multimeter to check it all out.

I had a problem like this on the Fiero last year. Was in an accident and got a new front end welded on, ended up using a j/y front wiring harness. I had to replace a horn, fix 2 sockets, and replace all the bulbs before it all worked right.

Looks like front drivers light has some corrosion/something on the back of the light mount. I'm going to clean it off and see if that helps at all.
