Re: Two questions about road safety
I loved the auto dimming rearview in the goat and the Jeep. Having a manual one doesn't bother me but the auto ones worked well in my experience. I have temp and compass on the dash display, so having a regular manual mirror (aside from OnStar) works good, too.

Re: Two questions about road safety
I don't agree that the TPMS works effectively. I have seen reports of the light coming on and the pressure is fine. Then if they either over or under inflate the tire it goes off and stays off. I have also seen reports of them just taking the light out or coloring over the light in the instrument cluster. Plus the sensors are 70 bucks plus a pop. So if someone is on a budget they are going to say forget it.

I hate HIDs with a capital death! I don't consider blinding people a safety plus. Especially the ones that are poorly aimed. Never mind the f**k knuckles who don't know the meaning of TURN YOUR BRIGHTS OFF!

Re: Two questions about road safety
The only HIDs I hate are non-factory drop ins, mainly those that are done into halogen housing. Now, HIDs can work in some halogen projector housings and have the necessary cut off in order not to blind people, however one will still experience hot spot in the light pattern.

Re: Two questions about road safety
I'd like to get this thread back on topic though.
What are your thoughts on what I Should do with my horn?
Also merging. Do you move over to let people on the highway?

Horn, no clue.
Allowing people to merge: if they're far enough ahead I'll slow so they can safely duck in front, but if they're dawdling I speed up and get out of dodge. If I can see they're trying to merge correctly and are attempting to merge at speed I'll do whatever I can to cooperate (I'll even hit the passing lane to give them room).

Horn: Go to the junkyard and get your hands dirty already!
Merging: Really depends on the situation.
- Empty road, nobody owning the left lane who's going to rage about me being there temporarily? I'll move over immediately.
- Other traffic around? Stand my ground, hold my speed to stay predictable, until I see that the merging driver is NOT going to try to go in front of or behind me, then brake or accelerate as necessary.
This morning, I was in the second situation a few times and people actually did a good job merging, choosing an unoccupied position rather than my exact position and velocity. All but one of those who chose to be in front of me accelerated to (or above) my speed, and those who chose to be behind me either did not exceed my speed or used the other lane and passed me. It was decent.

Re: Two questions about road safety
The worst is when a merging car is coming for the same space you are in and you both slow down at the same time. But it kills me when a guy is coming for the same spot you are in and there are no cars in the first lane for several hundred feet in front or behind you.

Re: Two questions about road safety
Traffic around here is usually bad enough that merging is a "zipper" anyway, but during times with little traffic, it seems that people always fixate on me while merging, and try to occupy the space I'm in, like I don't exist or something, like I'm a target space they're aiming for, and I'm the bullseye. It's weird, and I think it's also subconscious it seems. People who are inexperienced always try to fixate on something. Unfortunately, they fixate on me instead of the empty space behind me or in front of me. If I slow down, they slow down. If I speed up, they do too. It's like some weird sci-fi dream.

Could it be the kind of car you drive or the color?six wrote:Traffic around here is usually bad enough that merging is a "zipper" anyway, but during times with little traffic, it seems that people always fixate on me while merging, and try to occupy the space I'm in, like I don't exist or something, like I'm a target space they're aiming for, and I'm the bullseye. Maybe. It's just a ho-hum car, a gray coupe.

Spray fluorescent green Plastidip all over it and see if it makes a difference.

Re: Two questions about road safety
I really can't guess any more than I've already guessed here without seeing it in person. I think I could either cut one off a horn and make it work or find a compatible one in the junkyard, but if not I think it wouldn't be bad to cut off the old one and use a new one (and save the cut-off pigtail for re-attaching using the new connector).bk7794 wrote:What are your thoughts on what I Should do about that connector?theholycow wrote:Horn: Go to the junkyard and get your hands dirty already!
