One last new thread, questions about shifting?

Post by unitednations161 »

Well maybe for a while. You guys are extremely helpful and the drunk cow made my day.

i read the numerous posts about shifting and when to add gas, In my car the revs dont fall like a brick they are slow unless the air is on, then they fall in a second.

Shifting 1st to 2nd

1st leaves at 2500 starts to fall,
2nd enters 1700 or so. and rpms drop like a brick and car jerks.

since im already above the rpms that second comes in does that mean I dont add gas until after the clutch is all the way out?

I always seem to be smoother if i add gas AFTER the shift.

With the A/C though this is all screwed up and once i push in the clutch my rpms are at idle, so thats when i add gas during the shift?

His drunken holiness speaks the truth.

Also, keep asking questions if you have any. Obviously, we're not shy about sharing opinions, for better or worse.

Generally throttle is fed in while the clutch is released. This sounds rather ambiguous, but that's because it is. Every car is different and the timing will also be different in the same car under different circumstances, etc. As you practice, you'll figure it out by process of elimination of the bad shifts. It's far more subconscious that people realize and most over-think what they need to do.

This is a very true statement. Once you've learned it, let your muscle memory take over.
