Seem to have a problem shifting uphill

Post by bk7794 »

I seem to have problems doing 1-2 shifts going up hill...in a quicker manner. I can do it sometimes but thats when I start off uphill. The one thing that I might be doing is shifting too soon. Any thoughts?

I actually shift smoother going up hill 1-2 then on flat ground.

If you think you're shifting too soon, just wind it out a bit more to delay your shift. That's pretty much normal for hills anyway...

I think its also timing. I am going to hold it in gear a bit longer, this how I can be in the right spot for speed when I am on level ground.

I always run it to 3-3.5K hill or no hill. Just delay the shift until you feel like shifting. Isn't that the whole point of a manual? ;D

My thought process.. "yeah, coma is right... yeah... yeah... zing!"

I usually shift sooner than that unless I am needing some quicker acceleration/on a hill. Normally, I sit 1500-2200 rpm for average driving. Until I get over 50 mph or so and not having a 6th gear causes higher rpm.

I generally try to shift at lower rpms aswell. But sometimes when accelerating up a hill I get all messed up for some reason. I think its because the speed decreases.
