To me, it's mostly shades of gray, not right and wrong.......unless you are talking of holding the car in position on an uphill grade by constantly slipping the clutch, or revving to 5k+ rpm and slowly letting the clutch engage so that the engine rpm never dips - that's just wrong in anyone's book.
It's like writing - there are good writers and there are bad writers, but not all good writers follow the same style.
Call me Ishmael, but I do a lot of real soft engagements when I'm maneuvering in the parking deck. I engage the clutch just enough to start the vehicle in motion and then feather into the throttle. At this level of engagement, if I were to blip the throttle it would just result in excess slip.
