SS Chat

Post by Tinton »

After last night's adventures on AIM when SS was down, I decided it was time that we re-explored having a SS Chatroom.

Now for it to work, you either have to be using the mIRC plugin in Trillian or you have to download mIRC itself.

Server = irc.mozilla.org
Channel = #standardshift

1 of the first things you should do is register your nickname. So when you're in the #standardshift channel, type this: "/msg NickServ REGISTER Help" . That'll teach you how to register your nickname. Me and Mtheis are mods and I'm willing to appoint others but you gotta have a registered nickname.

should it be the same nickname as we have on the forum so we can keep everyone "apart" or not?

It's similar to the chat feature on most IMs. You download a program, log in to the channel (chat room), and talk. Basically the same, but with some specifics that I don't remember. The last time I IRCed, I think Clinton was still in office. :lol:

Ya, last night was crazy. The whores united in a chatting frenzy that resembled the incoherent yelling of a madman.

Someone. I once went on an IRC channel with about 20 bots (and lots more people) in it, one of which would return your 'word count'.

You go into the preferences for Trillian. Then you click on the plugins option. From there, it should bring up a list of Trillian's plugins, including some that aren't currently used. Check the box next to IRC or mIRC or whatever and close the preferences windows.

Next, you need to right-click on the connections area in the main Trillian window (the colorful balls near the top) and select "Manage my connections". Add a new connection for mIRC. The first field is the server name (irc.mozilla.org), the 2nd field is the channel name (#standardshift), for everything else you use your nickname.

After that, you exit out of the connections window and get back to the main Trillian window. Right-click on the white ball in the connections area, it represents mIRC. Then go down to Show Status window.

It should connect you to the server right away, but if not, typing "/server irc.mozilla.org" without the quotation marks should connect you with the mozilla server. If you're not in the channel type "/join #standardshift" without quotes to get into the channel.

Also, if you want to register your nickname, its a pretty good idea. Just type "/msg NickServ REGISTER password e-mail" and that should register the name you have. Make sure to substitute your password for password and your e-mail address for e-mail.
