^ holy shit!!!!1 Nz internet sucks cause the telephone lines are old and crap.... and theres only adsl1 where i live..... hopefully at the flat next year there will be adsl2

oh and you can reduce ur ping by asking ur ISP to turn interleaving off thats with adsl and adsl2 idk about cable, I forget what interleaving does but ISPs steal gamers from other ISPs by offering to turn it off on there accounts for lower pings.

wow, just switched to Google DNS, and now my google pings are around 17-18 ms. What a difference as far as that. Everything else feels faster too, at least, more consistently.

DNS doesn't affect ping speed. Once the name is resolved once, ping remembers the IP address and pings by IP instead of name. For ping, DNS would only affect how long between the time you issue the command and the time the first packet goes out.

A full T1 is 1.5mbits both ways... not so fast anymore. The only thing T1's are good for are the SLAs

thats my home line.... if interleaving was turned off the ping would be a bit better but its not too bad, i only game online rarely.

If any of you don't know how to do this, either to "run" or hit Windows Key + R, then type this in and press enter:

i usually get terrible ping to google or other large websites. to get a better idea of what ping your actually experiencing, its better to type in ping www.google.com -t this keeps the ping going longer than the 4 packets it sends without it. after i do 10 i hit control+C and it stops the process. average those up and it makes it a little more accurate

and im sure tups only gets good ping because all the finnish servers are in finland...and finland is about as big as connecticut, massachusetts and rhode island put together.

First of all, I didn't do any ping/bandwidth tests to Finnish servers. The speed test was done to Tallinn, Estonia and the ping test to Riga, Latvia, which are, respectively, 50 and 200 miles away. To compare the speed let's do test to the only Finnish server in speedtest.net/pingtest.net:




Surprisingly I get worse speed and latency to servers on the other side of the world:




Pinging whitehouse.gov in the command prompt gives an average ping of 29 ms, but I have no idea where the server is. Hopefully I didn't wake Obama or the FBI...

I forgot to note that I only pay for 7Mbps down and .5 up, so while I'm annoyed at my terrible upload speed, that is all I pay for. I just hate how expensive even terrible speeds cost.
