CHEESEBURGER IN PARADISE
To determine the greatest source of particulate matter in Southern California’s air, the University of California, Riverside was funded to do an in-depth study. It found that fast food restaurants are a shockingly huge source of particulates. The study found that one diesel semi-truck would have to drive 143 miles to put out the same amount of particulate matter as charbroiling one hamburger patty. Interestingly, the university had to grill up a bunch of burgers to do this testing. But they didn’t go to waste. As soon as the project was done they donated all those burgers to a local food bank.
