Why do people lower their shift boot

Post by bk7794 »

I was looking at this Civic on eBay. The thing was destroyed. Everything was damaged, but one thing that I noticed was that the leather shift boot was pushed down. I've seen this in other cars and always wondered why people do it. Anyone have an idea? I always pictured it as a ricer attempt at making belief it was a racecar.

I think it might be stock. That- or one of those "JDM" shift boots (i'd say its stock though)

My shift boot is low because I have a skunk2 weighted shift knob, and it has no clips to attach the stock boot to. I'm too cheap atm to buy a new boot.

That is the stock shift boot pushed down. Looks stock because of the plastic collar which would normally be at the top near the knob is now underneath the console.

Your boot without clips I am sure doesn't look like this

I'm not so sure that's always done intentionally. Sometimes it might just be worn and sagging down low.

Good question. It's probably another attempt at being "different" or clever.

Some of them are not, your right, but some, like in this case, are definitely done deliberately. In my opinion, it's just another way to distinguish if it was owned by someone who probably beat on it.

It would give one license to introduce the car to a sledge hammer, or better yet the driver.

Maybe the owner is circumcised and likes when the leather is pulled back from the knob.

Maybe they drove so fast that the jet stream of air under the car produced low pressure and sucked the boot down.
