BMI is out:
http://health.clevelandclinic.org/2013/ ... beyond+bmi
Look especially at the last comment which gives Waist to Height Ratio tables:

WOMEN
• Ratio less than 35 percent: Abnormally Slim to Underweight
• Ratio 35 to 42 percent: Extremely Slim
• Ratio 42 to 46 percent: Healthy
• Ratio 46 to 49 percent: Healthy
• Ratio 49 to 54 percent: Overweight
• Ratio 54 to 58 percent: Seriously Overweight
• Ratio over 58 percent: Highly Obese

MEN
• Ratio less than 35 percent: Abnormally Slim to Underweight
• Ratio 35 to 43 percent: Extremely slim
• Ratio 43 to 46 percent: Healthy
• Ratio 46 to 53 percent: Healthy, Normal Weight
• Ratio 53 to 58 percent: Overweight
• Ratio 58 to 63 percent: Extremely Overweight/Obese
• Ratio over 63 percent: Highly Obese

I distrust ratio indicators as a rule. Same inaccuracy issue applies. Bodies come in funny shapes. However, I would trust waist-to-height more than BMI.

My waist to height is 43.3%, apparently barely into the healthy range. I'm 6'7" with a 34" waist. Had a 36" waist until I started excercising regularly.

Agreed. I thought it was pretty obvious since it asked for weight on the same page and talked about BMI's correlation with health.
I was thinking more along what Tony said about strain on systems and stuff. I dont consider BMI to mean much of anything except in extreme cases. Take an otherwise average woman with massive boobs. BMI might say overweight. Or consider density of different tissues. BMI is a starting point, but by no means should be taken as an inarguable indicator of obesity.
Don't get me wrong; I'm not saying that BMI is an important part of an accurate lifespan prediction, they are...I'm just saying that it's obvious that that's how they're using height. The thought about strain on systems is probably more accurate but the website pretty strongly implies

In other news, I put in some more realistic answers regarding blood pressure and activity and such and I went from 68 to 82. On the first run I forgot some data and was excessively pessimistic anyway.

80, apparently.

That's funny because the men in my family tend to croak right around 65 or 70, usually earlier.

93 supposedly. I have some relatives that lived until past 90 and some that kicked it earlier. Though non were heart related conditions, so I guess that is good.

Side-note: BMI is an overrated stat. It's just a stat, that's it. It doesn't take into account diet, exercise, blood pressure or anything. Especially if they just do the pinch method to figure it out. Let's pinch your arm/side/etc and guess from there...

Nah, a full doctor's exam is a far better estimate of health. Or even something like blood pressure, how someone fares during intense exercise, and a multitude of other choices.

Meat heads are always on the obese side of the BMI. They're anything but obese. It could probably be argued that being excessively lean is also unhealthy. Something about not having enough padding for your organs comes to mind.

Luckily, both sides of my family stay physically healthy into the 80s, but unfortunately Alzheimer's runs in my dad's side :( . I'm legitimately scared of that disease, it hit my aunt when she was only in her early 50s. :?

My goal is to live a good life, not a long life. I butter the toast on my BLTs and don't think twice about it. I eat animals (Why else would DOG have made animals out of meat?). Butter and baked potatoes go together like a burger and fries, or beer and pizza.

But here's the think: I don't eat most of these fine foods on a daily basis, or a lot not even weekly. Prime rib isn't even a monthly thing, but when the opportunity presents itself a couple times a year I go for it. It's like driving safely and economically - 80 % of the time I'm a good boy and the rest of the time enjoyment trumps all else.

I wanna die in my sleep like Grandpa did, not screaming and praying and cursing like the passengers in his car.
