You would assume that since the carjacker was in the passenger seat already, he would have noticed it wasn't an automatic while he was waiting for the driver to return...

Granted, that assumes logic applies to this person.

Something exactly like this happened at the hospital near me. A med student got carjacked, the robbers wanted him to stay in the car and teach them how to drive stick. If I remember correctly they found the car up a curb a few blocks down.

Wow, what a dilemma: Do you teach the would-be carjacker in the Amish ways, or do you tell him "Only ______ (Choose an ethnicity) people can do this"?
