...at least make it one with "a real shifter in it"
ONE BADASS SUV- Autoline Daily
“One badass SUV.” That’s what Tim Kuniskis calls it. He’s the head of Passenger Car Brands at FCA North America. And he’s talking about the new Dodge Durango SRT. It’s hard to disagree. With a 392 HEMI V8 that cranks out 475 horsepower and 407 pound-feet of torque, it flies from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. That’s mighty fast for a three-row SUV. No top end speed was quoted but it has a 180 MPH speedometer. The lower front fascia was inspired by the Dodge Viper. There’s an air intake located above the left front fog lamp which drops the incoming air temperature by 18 degrees Fahrenheit. The Durango SRT will start arriving at dealerships at the end of the year. Oh yeah, one more thing. It comes with an 8-speed automatic and to enhance its appeal to enthusiasts Tim Kuniskis says we “put a real shifter in it, instead of a damn knob.”
"Valet: engine is remapped to mimic the Dodge Charger V-6 engine’s torque and horsepower settings; transmission locks out access to first gear and upshifts earlier than normal; traction, steering and suspension are set to their Auto settings; steering wheel paddle shifters are disabled; ESC is enabled to Full-on and launch control is disabled"

Re: If You're Gonna Drive a Slushbox,.....
As I saw in an old hot rod magazine letters column, a guy wrote in about a recent article titled "Coolest Camaro" and said, "no, the coolest Camaro would have three pedals."
The only thing an automatic transmission is good for is to avoid public transportation, but by all means one should seek out and drive a stick.
