Do you consider yourself liberal or conservative?

I made this poll out of pure curiosity  If you could also outline what exactly you like and don't like about each side, it would be good.

I thought I was a liberal but, whenever I take these quizzes on lj, they say I'm either slightly to the left or slightly to the right... :? . Gotta admit I'm not into politics like some people are, though I do watch Meet the Press now and then... Gotta keep in mind that being conservative doesn't necessarily mean doing the same things all the time. Sometimes you gotta take action and make changes to uphold the status quo. Yeah, that makes sense  .

Once, I took that test and found out that in economy I am a capitalist, but in foreign and internal affairs I am on the liberal side. I do consider myself liberal though.

i consider my self to the right, however, i do belive some change is good for the nation, depending on what it is. Remember the founding fathers made it a living document so it could be changed when needed.

I do support the iraq war and what not, but i dont approve of the presidents policys at home, such as border protection, immagration reform, federal budget, war budget, womens right to choose(you know what i mean), and the Patriot Act.

Just goes to show, that i can agree with one thing of his, but not all of it.

And remember, questioing our leaders as citizens is the best thing we can do to keep our freedoms secure, so if you dislike the president that is you right.
It is not only our right to question our leaders, it's our responsiblty!

Look at the Spanish (for example). They are always protesting something somewhere. They are very vocal and live and breathe politics. The same could be said of many other countries over there :) .

I'm on neither side... Liberal when it comes to religion and pro-choice/pro-life, conservative when it comes to gun control, and liberal in assuming that bush is a complete idiot. :)

What does a liberal believe about internal affairs? I believe that the government should mind its own business, and that used to be Republican issue, back when they were still known as liberals (the titles have flip-flopped in meaning in the last few decades; liberals now want more government involvement in personal lives, while "old" liberals wanted a smaller government and less government interference)

That's cute, and their mob mentality indirectly lead to the bombings in Britain, when terrorists realized that they could alter the course of a whole nation's government with some explosives.

Not to mention a nice morale boost in Iraq as well.

Please don't take offense to my points above, but I'd like it to illustrate a topic that's not so partisan: is rule by the people really the best? I'm talking about a true democracy compared against a republic (the US) vs dictatorships vs communism. On a side note, how about socialism vs. capitalism?

Keep in mind that the US is not a true democracy; we vote senators and representatives and presidents into office to act on our behalf and to represent our interests; whether they do is another story, but that's the way it's supposed to work. The only democracy to ever exist for a significant population was Athens, where men rules their fates directly in public forums. Of course, women, slaves, and those who didn't own property weren't included, but who's counting, right? :)

Be extremely careful about the "quizzes" and "surveys" you take, especially online, about politics. Remember, if they are supported by a certain side, the chances that your quiz results will turn out that way. Crazy, huh?

We'd get along quite well, except for the fact that Bush is a partial idiot. C'mon, the guy's like your uncle that never had a wife or kids, ya know?

So, then I am an "old" liberal :) Actually, consider me a libertarian because I agree with them almost on every issue.

i'm not sure what my label should be but here's a mini outline of what i feel on some issues:

*keep your laws off my body and off my guns*
*make sure the kids have the resources to get a decent education*
*look after the old folks in their twilight years*
and finally:
*ensure that the entire (not just the working) populace has access to affordable health care*

if any president could get just these few issues in hand properly, hey, i'd be a happy camper! :)

I don't know which I'd side with. Seems like every 20 years young liberal ideals become old conservative ideals. One thing I'm sure of is the government has way to much authority right now. I think the federal government should be concerned with foreign affairs and disputes between states. The states should should be worried about local issues and the economy. And I'd give an arm and a leg to get the Fair Tax passed.

Bush though, that's a bit more complicated. I can't hate him because I think he's usually got the right idea, but I can't like him because he usually doesn't plan and/or execute very well. I will stand firm and say I can't stand the people he's got working for him. Just listening to Cheney speak gives me the creeps. He reminds me of Steve Ballmer to much I guess. And Rumsfeld is like one of those narrow minded war monger generals you see in bad movies.

Call me what you will, but I won't join a party because it'll look bad when I inevitably change my mind.

Oh, and what's with so many people limiting themselves to a two party system? Nevermind...another rant for another day.
