Hey guys, I've been playing the bass guitar for about 2 years now AND I've been practicing my stickshifts for the past 6 months [I can get my Restricted Licence in 3 weeks!!! ] When I tell people I play the bass they go WAH! but when I tell them I stickshift as well...WAH WAH WAH!!! hahaha! j/k! Anyway the question I pose to all you seasoned stickshifters is........WHAT INSTRUMENTS DO YOU GUYS PLAY IF ANY???
PS: Sorry if I've missed out any! lol!

I played Alto and Tenor Sax back in elementary, middle and high school and the first year of undergrad. Now, I've been playing bass on and off for 3 years or so, and I have been fiddling around with the guitar too. I have an Ibanez 4 string bass, a Rogue 5 string bass (nice one with active pickups and string-through-body) and an ESP H-100 6 string guitar. I don't pick them up that often unless someone is having a graduation party, but I have fun with them when I do play .

We're all stick-drivin' music nerds!
I'm not awesome, I've just had some fun in my day. Then college got in the way.
Pointers for the show:
1. Tune, tune tune. Do NOT start the show until you are completely set up, your EQs are completely set, your volume levels are checked, and your band is completely tuned (this includes the drummer!).
2. Don't wear shorts. It looks bad on stage. Everyone should wear pants (I know its hot, suck it up) and perferrably shirts of some time. Depending on your style of music, collared shirts and ties could make things interesting.
3. Get into it! Don't be afraid to move around, shake your salt shaker ( . . . yeah) and drum up the crowd. They want to be entertained, so entertain them! Just don't move about so much that you can't play your instrument. I once jumped off an 8' speaker tower and twisted my ankle. Fortunately, it was at the end of the show.
4. Introduce yourself. Like meeting someone new for the first time, make sure they know who you are.
5. The singer must be heard! People like to hear words (not all of us are musicians!) so make sure those vocals are hot! (But not overpowering)
6. If you are a screamo band, quit the school gig now. That's for underground shows. If you have any screaming in any song, try to tone it down or disclude it completely. Since this is for your school, its a "general" audience, meaning you want to cater to them like Top 40. Selling out sucks, huh?
Other than that, good luck, don't be nervous, look at the audience, and enjoy yourselves! Rock on!

That's the only bass worth playing. I know my way around the electric bass, but the uprights are a mystery to me.LS1Leader wrote:Used to play bass. Not electric. The old school bass. I think that thing was taller than me.
While were on it, cellos are a wonderfully mournful instrument as well.
