Theres no such thing as labor under $100/hour around here. Dealers are obviously a bit more.

wow, that sucks. I haven't checked out the prices of other private mechanics lately, but I don't remember any ever being as low as the one I mentioned. I remember our mechanic one time (way back when) saying that the shop is paid off so he doesn't have to charge a lot. He also apparently lives in a nice house with frills (and I'm not just talking reverse lockout collars) but you wouldn't know that from looking at him at the shop.

i have a friend in temple terrace, she says the storms are rather strong in her area, but i don't think she got hit by the tornados....

And i'm going away mon/tues/weds while michigan is supposed to get ice. Its gonna be a fun drive south to lower michigan, but i get to miss all the OT

Tornadoes touched down about 25 miles east of me. We were under a watch, but a warning was never issued for my area. Lots of rain and some localized flooding still remains. The Trinity river is flooding...again.

Bad news is the trails are even further under water. They flooded last time over Thanksgiving and the lake hasn't even receded far enough before we got hit with this set of storms. MTB hasn't been ridden much at all this year, as out of the last 12 months, the trails have been open for a cumulative of 2.

I am, however, looking to buy a kayak this winter and start the spring right!

Woohoo! Figured out what was causing an annoying/kinda scary rattle from my front end any time I launched harder than a no-gas launch.

My passenger side engine mount has sagged 3/8" - 1/2". This combined with my subframe having been shifted during the replacement of my clutch two weeks ago resulted in my larger-than-stock downpipe knocking against the rear crossmember of the aforementioned subframe. Tweaking the fitment of my downpipe at the V band clamp resulted in enough clearance.

First real snow of the yeast, and tires are working wonderfully. I was walking past the timid and playing with some minor handbrake turns. Hehe.

glad your tires are good so far. mine were slightly disappointing tonight on the way to work. granted, it was like ice or a cross between snow, rain and ice, but these yokohama tires are supposed to do better on ice than the winterforces i had on the jetta. hopefully it's a fluke and they do better on real ice and snow.

I'll be putting last year's tires back on. I was sorely disappointed in them but they're still better than all-season tires.

Not sure when I'll do that. Maybe later this week, if this really is the start of snow/ice season. Weather's supposed to be warmer the rest of the week and I have the week off.

i think the main reason i was so disappoint about the new tires was that they haven't handled well in warmer weather (during the past couple of months) and especially in rain during warmer weather, and reviews had me expecting very good ice and snow handling in return. the tires seemed to handle worse than my old winterforce tires, though it could be neither one would have handled this kind of frozen rain/icy stuff/snow mix well. the yokos did do well once going on previously plowed (but already recovered) roads, but didn't launch without traction control kicking in and taking a few seconds to gain traction.

My Altimax Arctics have done alright in the piddly bit of snow we have so far.
