First time at San Antonio Raceway

Post by gage »

Had a great time with a bud of mine with a GTO last friday. Cut a relatively awful 14.8 second time, but felt better when he said his first time out he couldn't get out of the 15s with his 420hp GTO (mine is stock).

First run was the best at 14.8, left traction control on and just released the clutch and hit the gas.

Runs 2 and 3 I red lighted so they dont really count. And on the last run vs. a SRT-10 Ram I remembered to leave the traction control off, but my method of dump and go resulted in a stall since the engine wasn't fighting the clutch ^_^.

I figure if I can work on launches (I have never hard launched a stick before this) and get better tires (these 245 all-seasons SUCK for the quarter) I should hit 13s. I can shift very well in this car down the stretch without worrying about worrying about breaking things.

I feel sorry for your friend... That had to be a bit of an ego-burn...
Ah, it takes time to get a perfect launch... Or, near perfect...

Well he does low 13's now, he was talking about his first time at the track. Another GTO guy's first run was 28 seconds (:O!). He needs a new clutch though, especially since he cammed it.

Given the price of the car plus the IRS it's easy to find folks who haven't really had experience drag racing without a solid rear. This is my first stick car, first V8, and I dont have a ton of experience driving as I'm 23.

I would love to hit the strip again soon, maybe on the 20th in Temple if I can make it.
