Igloo in a Blizzard
Flurries with a chance of fun in the Fiat 500
What happened next surprised me. I really enjoyed the 500. It was a blast using the joystick five-speed manual, and even with these tiny tires, it was reasonably sure-footed. A Jeep Wrangler would have been better for the mushy streets, but the 500 felt like slipping around in a little go-kart, sort of like a four-cylinder sled. I even popped the roof, letting in shocks of shiny white snow that had accumulated on the top of the car. It felt good. Cool but not cold, and invigorating.
The 500 handled well as I put it through its paces in the Labrador country that is Detroit's western suburbs, and dashing through the open roads was a riot. Driving for the sake of driving is always fun, especially when it's below freezing and your car has 101 hp.
I still think that the 500 is a novelty. And small for the sake of small isn't what most Americans want. But a weekend in the 500 was a hell of a lot of fun. It's smart to keep an open mind. You never know when something good will sneak up on you. Bring on the Abarth.

I was gonna drive one of those. Doubt that it's a car for me, thought.
How was the room inside, rope, for a tall guy like me?

Yanno, I've only been in the Abarth models. I fit, but I wasn't wearing a hat. I didn't pay attention to how tall my hair could get before it hit the headliner. The Abarth's passenger seat seems to be raised up - I didn't fit on that side.
No, I didn't Czech to see if they stashed something under the passenger seat. PT Cruiser Diesel had a gel-cell battery stuphed on it's side under the passenger seat - no room at the in for it

I remember the most impressive feature about the 08 Rabbit I used to have was the fact that I had 8" of headroom with the front seat all the way down. the 500 looks to be a pretty tall vehicle.

Re: Igloo in a Blizzard
Me and my mom popped into a Fiat dealership today to have a look. I'm actually pretty impressed with the little cars. Now my mom wants to ditch her old Sebring and get a 500.
I'd love to take out one of the Abarth editions.

Two pedals, two feet, too easy.

So,....it was still half taken apart, but I sat in the drivers seat. About 5" of air between me and the headliner.
It looked higher than the driver's seat, so I looked under the passenger seat - Bose amp and sub-woofer.

That's considered above average for an American male.

but not really tall. It is at the upper end for fitting into some fun little cars, so I'm not complaining.AHTOXA wrote:That's considered above average for an American male.
