This is my Quest

Post by Rope-Pusher »

This is my quest:
that they shift those cars!
No matter how hopeless,
no matter how hard
To launch at the light
without stalls or guffaws.
To be willing to coach them to clutch for a Heavenly cause
And I know, I'll only be true
to this glorious quest,
That my heart, will lie peaceful and calm,
when I'm laid to my rest.

And the World Will Be Better For this.
That one man, scorned and covered with scars,
still strove, with his last ounce of courage,
to teach them to drive Amish car!

At work today, I was part of a team giving summer interns "The Amish Experience".

20 people showed up for each of the 6 sessions (some had driven before) and I prolly taught 15 first-timers myself.

It was a time constrained lesson - a talk about how with great power comes the responsibility of parking it in 1st and with the handbrake on, how to position seat so clutch pedal can hit its downstop, a run-through of some of the different ways that shifting into Reverse is inhibited, a couple 3 or 4 no-gas launches and off we went to take a lap of the evaluation road and get in a few shifts into most of the gears before coming back down to 1st and parking it to change drivers. Lots of the interns vowed to buy Amish for their next vehicle.

Friday will be business as usual.

First picture is a hotlink fail.

Based on subject line I expected a picture of a Nissan minivan.

Anyway, that's great!

I'm trying to get a couple of my friends to become interested enough to learn the basics. I think I'm finally able to teach the mechanics of the whole operation.

I think the interns have already run into situations at work where not being Amish has been a limitation.
