comingbackdown's new addition to the stable...
A 1983 Yamaha Venture Royale 1200.
43,xxx on the clock. Needs some new plastics at some point and needs some work, but nothing too bad.
Got her dirt cheap for what she is. Brand new tires, spare brake pads, etc.
One question...
Does this bike make my ass look fast?
Got gear as well. Don't have a pic of the jacket, but here's the helmet.
It's an HJC CL-17.

Damn, that's a big-ass bike. It's basically a car with 2 wheels and no doors or roof . I dig the quintessentially '80s color scheme.
Also, dat wood.

Nice bike. Were you looking for a cruiser or just found a deal too good to pass up?

I wasn't looking for anything specific. Found out about it, looked at it, fell in love with it, boom. Incredible deal.

I wouldn't paint it. I'd ride it with stock paint.

Same. If ever I do any color change, the plan would be to find the plastics and a different seat and black it out.AHTOXA wrote:I wouldn't paint it. I'd ride it with stock paint.

I'd buy $8 worth of Plasti Dip and make it flat black.
Actually, that works for almost anything that's ugly.

Re: comingbackdown's new addition to the stable...
I'm just gonna make this my running project thread on this bike, since it needs some serious shit done to it. Have to start a thread on the car soon enough... Anyway, pics to come, but my last go 'round with it had me about ready to say fvck it and just put her up for the year. It's bad enough to have proof of concept of Murphy's Law going on in your garage, it's even better when somebody else steps in and it's like their hands are magic, and the moment they leave the garage the donkey f*cked thing has you with a BFH.
I wish I had a gopro, I'd love to video one of my rides.
Lots of projects at season's end. LIST!
Change fuel shutoff, replace fuel lines that I haven't already
Valve check/adjustment if needed
Fork oil change
Clean/repack wheel bearings
Some rewiring (I swear to God, Bubba f*cking took an elephant sized SHIT on the wiring on this thing. Do it right or GET F*CKED! )
Maybe add extra zerk to swing arm
Work on the paint maybe?
New plug wires... Plugs I have to do sooner since I fouled 'em out with some heavy duty carb cleaner.
Find basically the entire front fairing set, change out.
Radio?
...and the "best" for last, rebuild rear brake master cylinder, spend two days getting the air out of the bastard.
Oh, and replace the brake rotors if they're finally out of spec. Here's the fun part. Yamaha quit making (IIRC) two out of the three rotors. There are some EPIC aftermarket rotors available for this scoot from drilled and vented rotors to specially shaped slotted/drilled performance rotors. Problem is, the cheapest I've found that are a guaranteed direct fit are like $165 a pop. Luckily as long as their agreement is in effect, I can get a discount from the place I found 'em at through Venturerider.
My current project is locating a set of mounting brackets for one of my saddle bags. They slip onto the bag guards and they have two brackets which mate with points on the rear frame to handle the load, and a lock to keep them in place.
I was out on a ride with some cargo one day a while back, I round a corner with a Honda RIGHT on my ass, I hear *BANG! KSSSHHHHHKKKKKKK!* and the bike dives to the left. I look in my mirror and there's a saddle bag chasing me down the pavement. Mount points broke and the lock couldn't hold the weight. Dealer wants thirty two bucks a PIECE for these couple little chunks of metal. I don't goddamnit think so, at least not if I can help it.
That's the update for now. Long as the weather's clear tomorrow I'm gonna spend some time riding, so I'll cap a vid with some background and a startup.
