Chicken Soup for the Left Foot
"What if I told you there is a car on the market right now being bought overwhelmingly by young people -- more than half are less than 34 years old? That fully 83 percent of those buyers preferred this car in three-pedal form? And that, far from being Luddites, these buyers were disproportionately likely to live in a “smart home” or even, more ominously, to own a drone? What if the car in question is, conceptually and sensorially, about the furthest thing from a self-piloting vehicle coming off a mass-production assembly line in the world today? Would it make you feel any better?"

2018 Porsche 911 GT3 is a track monster with 500 hp and a stick shift
Porsche owners can breathe a sigh of relief: The manual transmission isn't going away -- in fact, it's going into the new 2018 911 GT3, where it'll be coupled with a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six producing an even 500 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque

Honda Civic Type R will be Amish Only
(But I don't agree with the claim made in the underlined section. They may have decreased flywheel inertia, but if anything the clutch disk inertia often is decreased when you design for a dual-mass flywheel system, since the damper in the clutch hub can often be reduced in size or eliminated when you let the dual-mass flywheel mitigate the NVH issues)
We’d heard rumors the Type R would boast 300 hp, and Honda pulled it off. The direct-injected 2.0-liter turbo-four develops 306 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, and the only gearbox is a short-throw six-speed manual with rev-matching capability. Honda says the new single-mass flywheel reduces clutch inertia 25 percent compared to the outgoing European Type R, while the lower final gear ratio should improve acceleration.

not sure how the thing will handle all that power without AWD (or RWD). thyme will tell, eye guess.Rope-Pusher wrote:Honda Civic Type R will be Amish Only

Automakers have suspension designs, either on the drawing boards (ok, on the CAD screens) or in use now, that counter-act the tendencies for torque-steer. It's really interesting to see how they are tip-toeing around each-other's patents, sharing some other common design patents, etc. It could be that Honda will use some similar design on the Type R.potownrob wrote:not sure how the thing will handle all that power without AWD (or RWD). thyme will tell, eye guess.Rope-Pusher wrote:Honda Civic Type R will be Amish Only

Man, that Civic Type-R looks gaudy. It's factory rice in a time when rice is starting to go out of style. Especially the three differently-sized exhaust pipes! And the wheels are too small and narrow. And that wing!

Well, it is Type-R(ice), not Type-T(asteful).six wrote:Man, that Civic Type-R looks gaudy. It's factory rice in a time when rice is starting to go out of style. Especially the three differently-sized exhaust pipes! And the wheels are too small and narrow. And that wing!

2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF
"Fancy roof aside, it’s always great to be back in a Miata again. Driving this car quickly is not only easy, it’s also so much damn fun. The slickness of the Miata’s manual transmissions over the years has been seared into our brains; the Miata’s box could be the benchmark for the way manual transmissions feel, and the one in the RF is no exception. The throws are so light that you can move the shifter with your fingertips. And the steering is just as precise as we remember in the soft top."
